It's all relative. He was able to keep Iran relatively at bay. However, compared to our military, his was a joke.

Nice strawman but it doesn't fly here. Are you able to even win one argument?

On Dec. 31, 2000, all three services of the Iraqi armed forces -- Army, Air and Naval troops -- took part in a grand military parade in Baghdad, along with the elite Republican Guard, the Border Guards, the Special Forces and the Saddam Fedayyeen, a militia run by President Saddam Hussein's elder son, Udai. The troops were armed with some 1,000 tanks and hundreds of surface-to-surface missiles and surface-to-air missiles.

The Iraqi president is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, which receive direct combat operation orders from the defense minister, the chief of general staff and commanders of theArmy, Air and Naval forces.

Iraqi Army, which numbers 375,000 soldiers, including the 50,000-60,000-strong Republican Guard, is still the largest fighting force in the Middle East. An additional of 50,000 troops could be called up for active duty in emergencies.

Saddam mobilized nearly one million troops in the Gulf War, including 650,000 reserve forces, who could be put on active duty from the age of 18 to 45.

According to the Jane's Information, the Army comprises 23 regular army divisions -- three armored divisions, three mechanized divisions, 11 infantry divisions and six Republican Guard divisions. The Army is equipped with 2200 tanks, 3700 armored vehicles, 2000 artilleries and 500 anti-aircraft guns, as well as six missile batteries.

Iraqi Air Force consists of 30,000 men, of whom about 17,000 are attached to its subordinate Air Defense Command. The Air Forcehas various types of fighter planes, including five Mig-25s, four Mig-29s, 30 Mig-23s, 20 Su-22s, five Su-24s and 20 Mirage F1, and nine transport planes -- two An-22s, six An-24s and one Il-76.

As many as 100 helicopters are also operational, although thesegunships form the Army Air Corps.

This was the same pattern Saddam followed for a decade. Block and stall and then say uncle just before facing severe consequences. And yet nothing ever got done in 10 years! Enough was enough.

True. Sad but true.

Enough was enough. Bring him to justice as a war criminal, but not through war.

Again I will ask, who is bringing him to justice? Did you see the info I provided on Saddams military prior to the 2003 invasion? Who is walking through that and leaving with Saddam in cuffs? Chuck Norris?

The military was considered (*)(*)(*)(*) poor at best compared to their Iran/Iraq war days. His military lacked training and were inadequately equipped especially after the invasion of Kuwait and all the previsions from the UN and so forth.

Nonetheless, again, look up Marquee and Reprisal. It can be done. Secondly, we are the US, if we want to topple a government, we can do it. We have before without evoking war. We could do it again. Why does it seem so insurmountable to you?

According to the research I did (and posted earlier which by the way you failed to acknowledge or comment on) Saddam still had what was considered the best military in the middle east.

There is no way around it, what you describe would entail a full invasion and battle with Saddams military. Which is exactly what Bush did only you are advocating leaving Iraq in chaos and open to takeover by it's neighbors without a leader and a defeated military to stand in the way.
