What do you think of the Absolut vodka Mexico ad?
What do you think of the Absolut vodka Mexico ad? Well, a new manufacturer of the world-famous brand “Absolut”, French spirit maker Pernod Richard CA, which has recently acquired production of this vodka from Vin&Spirit (Absolut’s Sweden-based parent company), dared to hold a press campaign under the slogan “In an Absolut World” in Mexico. In fact, it presented a 1830s-era colorful map of North America, when Mexico included California, Texas and other southwestern American states (Utah, Colorado and New Mexico). French company have correctly decided that its brand will surely win the Mexican market if this campaign taps into national pride of Mexicans, who continue to believe the US Southwest was stolen and should be returned.
But something tells me that not simple advertising experts have made a good shot in this case. It is my belief that European special services have had also their hands in it. There is no secret that right after Americans have enforced their plan on fast recognizing independent Kosovo upon Europe, a great number of national minorities, wished for own independence, began to lay their long-time claims with double energy. And all Europeans have felt a real fear for their security and peace. Plus some of them have had to be afraid for their state’s stability and territorial integrity. And all that is exactly because of successful realization of US plan on Kosovo’s independence!
Thus, it cannot be a mere chance that just this time in far Mexico we became a witnesses of appearance the map, depicted what the Americans might look like in an “Absolut” – i.e., perfect – world. Well, surely Mexicans still resent losing their territory in the 1848 Mexican-American War and have half a mind to revive the fight for Texas independence at any suitable moment. This campaign should show high and mighty Yankees that any borders are never absolute! And US frontiers are not an exception from numerous historic examples!
