Wait a second. So these liberals managed to get rich under the capitalist system, but really don't understand the system or how it works? We can delete that post if you want. Because it's out there now. For the record, Warren Buffett has a pretty solid understanding of the system.

As for your question, yes why does the left cling to the notion of big government?

Why does the right not try to change the aformentioned?

All questions I'd be interested to know the answer to.

To be fair, the current right in this country clings to the same notion.

There are MANY more liberals or liberal-voting persons on the government dole: welfare recipients, AFSCM union members, government school teachers, university professors, federal bureaucrats, grant recipients, subsidized farmers, plus others whose livelihood implicitly depends on statism - notably, lawyers.

The very rich liberals tend to be people who made money in the liberal media, or inherited money from their conservative ancestors.

It's amatter of degree. Some statism leads to more statism.

Quote:
What Blade ignores is that liberals and conservatives both use or have used statism, quite vigorously, but for different reasons. Liberals are more likely to use statism for social policy objectives, whereas conservatives use statism in to protect national economic and security interests.
I don't ignore it, and you are correct, but conservative statism isn't within ordres of magnitude of lib statism. To conservatives, government is like prisons - an unpleasant but necessary institution. Too liberals, government is everything.

Quote:
However, statism is useful in making up where the market has failed. Without statism, many countries would be in an economic dumpster. Using the power of the national government, they were able to complete railway systems, highways, pipelines, resource development, to become more economically competative.
The old argument of government stepping in where the market has failed usually gives examples of government stepping in where government has failed - eg, the Great Depression. Also, I see I really have to make a big post soon about the invalid "infrastructure" argument for statism.

Yes, and what that something other is control over other people's lives - scratch a lib and find a control freak.

And it's conservatives who give more money to charity, not liberals.

You are confusing conservatives or "the right" with the republican party.

The first and second amendments guarantee those rights, as if they were important. In Obama-think, is the Constitution "clingy", too?
