Default Would You Send Your Daughters To Iraq, Mrs. Bush?

On Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Borders bookstore at 14th and F Streets NW in Washington DC, the mother of a Marine Corps Sergeant killed in Iraq will deliver a letter to Mrs. Bush and her daughter, Jenna, who will be at the store promoting their children’s book, “Read All About It.” Gilda Carbonaro, mother of Sgt. Alesandro Carbonaro who died after being burned in an IED blast in Iraq, plans to deliver the following letter.

A woman's place is in the home, not the military.

Sorry for her loss, however the military is something you sign up for. He understood the dangers and like the hero he is opted to do it anyway.

The President and Prime Mininsters are always quite happy to send their fellow countrymen off to a war zone, but stop short when it comes to sending their own children.

This is one of the reasons John Howard (former Australian Prime Minister) didn't allow conscription - it would have meant his son would have been forced to sign up - however, he was more than happy for non family members to be sent over to Iraq.

Does the name Prince Harry mean anything to you?

Anyway. Neither Bush, nor his wife can make anyone join the military. Not even their own children. If they felt the need to serve. Then they could. They are not serving, so they obviously did not feel the need. Maybe you should be asking them why they are not serving instead of their parents.

You're exactly right with this one, MasTequila.

Our military has been 100% volunteer since '73. A lot people seem to forget that. Those that weigh the risks and join anyway, for whatever reason, provide an inmeasurable service to us.

Politicians have no say in WHO fights. I think the question to ask would be
"would you STOP your children from going?"

If having your child serve in the military is her reason for voting for someone or not then someone needs to tell her that Johm McCains son serves now.

He joined at 17 with his mothers permition without telling his dad. Dad wanted him to be Navy after collage. But he chose the Marine Corp.

Sorry for nitpicking, but I can't help it.

Marine Corps.

We now return to your regularly scheduled debate.

I am not refering to those who serve in the military, rather, those who go to war, because they have joined the military. Now, I am confident that people are not forced into combat, despite the fact they may be in the military, but what would be a consequence if someone was against a war, and did not wish to serve?

I guess those who choose to join the military know that they may well be required to defend their countries - but shouldn't such a thing, knowing the risks - be optional?
