I don't think that your average right-winger has any idea what the word means. Here is Socialism, as used by rightists:

1) Anything vaguely Liberal
2) Taking money from decent, hard-working Americans, and giving it to lazy, degenerate criminals (usually Black) who refuse to work.

Now here is Socialism, from Mill's Political Economy, as quoted in Black's Law Dictionary:

" ... not necessarily implying communism, but applied to any system which requires that the land and the instruments of production should be the property, not of individuals, but of communities or associations or of the government."

So can I ask you to in the future make an effort to use the term properly? Not as a blanket term for "anything I happen not to like."

I feel that socialism is the taking of individuals property/wealth by the state or country and giving it to other people. Taxation when used for social programs is a form of socialism.

Liberalism is the ultimate means to socialism however. Ofcourse socialism doesn't just crop up over night. How does the left even live day by day? Do they just look at a loaf and bread and keep hoping a sandwhich will magically appear? They do know that a sandwhich needs bread, some lunch meats, cheese, possibly a few vegetables and condiments right?

There has to be a stage in between being random crap and becoming a sandwhich. But to a liberal, there is no point B. Only Point A to C.

Actually, socialism differs from communism only in semantics. Both define societies where the collective is superior to the individual. Individuals must surrender anything necessary, whether property or liberty, for the good of the masses. Subordination of the individual requires the power of government to direct workers' efforts and to disperse all wealth accumlated, according to needs.

Ultimately, this is the maturity of a society dedicated to fairness and equality. We in the U.S. have been steadily working toward this goal, and have only a few remaining outdated concepts to remove to complete our transition. Supporting political leaders like Obama or Hillary will help America to reach the level of true progressivism we are destined to attain.

I have to disagree with some aspects of your argument. You must be a racist to generalize criminals in one racial catagory. There are lot of white people on welfare so it still remains to be seen. Why and how could black criminals could be on welfare or a governmental services when most criminals are selling drugs, robbing, stealing, and jacking for cash flow. To take money from the government means you have to leave a paper trail. If they are making your own money, why do they need money from the government when they can take your conceal handgun away from you, and beat the crap out of you and shoot you dead.
