Default Al Franken: Tax Evader

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080430/.../franken_taxes

Looks like Al will make a good politician after all. Like many, he is a hypocrite better at condemning others than practicing what he preaches. Hey Al, continue to support higher taxes while doing everything you can to not pay them yourself!

I'm sure he does. Not claiming business income would be a "mistake" as well if I ever made that choice. Even more so if I was in politics.

Someone must believe him, because he's not in trouble.

Quote:
His communications director, Andy Barr, said none of the 17 states attempted to contact Franken or his accountant seeking the unpaid personal income taxes.
It is possible it was indeed a mistake made by his accountant. Or not. Only he really knows. I'm not inclined to believe him or not believe him based on politics.

I think I'm inclined to agree with you.

Do you think Franken will become an outspoken advocate of simplifying the tax code after this?

I think he is getting a pass he has a history of forgetting or as I like to say lying.

Franken raised $2.2 million this year; admits error in workman's comp payments

he also did not pay disability insurance.

Half the story is always more fun that all of the story, isn't it?
Quote:

Franken said once the payments to the states are settled, he would seek retroactive credit from his states of residence since much of the income taxes he paid to them was supposed to go instead to the 17 other states.
It looks like he paid the taxes, just to the wrong recipients.

This also looks like his accountant's problem, not his. After all, you set up corporations and hire accountants so you don't have to think about stuff like this.
