And this has nothing to do with what I said. Keep trying.

You must admit though that Europeans seem to be angry with us, unless & until they need our help.
Many Europeans are angry with Bush and his idiocy in his foreign policy. Other than that I don't think many people have a problem with the US.

I would hope that when he says he doesn't like America that what he really means is that he doesnt like our government.

I say that because ive traveled all over the world, I actually used to live in Ireland and I can say that people around the world are mostly the same....slight differences and beliefs of course but mostly the average person just wants to be happy and have a safe and peaceful life for them and their families.

Now obviously im American, but the things that Danish doesnt like about the U.S. are quite honestly the things I dont like about it either.

I dont like how religious we are....I feel it has hurt us as a nation. And while I dont necessarily think social conservatism is a "bad" thing, I DO think it limits ones individual freedom and I myself am very Socially Liberal.

There are things about Europe that I love more than the U.S. and quite honestly there are some things about EVERY European nation that are ridiculous.

I wont go so far as to say that I "hate" or "dislike" any of those nations though. There are a few places in Europe that IMO would be just as nice to live in as the U.S. but quite honestly I would prefer the U.S. over the majority of European nations I have ever been to.
Thank you. I hope you understand that while I was making points I feel are true, the main point of my opening post was intended as a spoof on a woo-woo thread with the same title as mine.

If I had wanted to make a serious thread on these points I would have entitled it: "Things I don't like about the US".

I don't dislike the US in general. I do dislike certain things about it.

I think there is a vast difference between being the "strongest" or "the best" and being "wise" or a "good leader."

The United States - without a doubt - is a wonderful nation, with wonderful people and great potential. I say "great potential" because - as a major player upon the world stage - I don't think we are where we could (or should) be.

A great leader leads by example, and if we expect other nations of the world to act in a certain way (honestly, fairly, wisely), then we need to demonstrate how to do so through our own actions. Force should be tempered and used sparingly; fiscal responsibility should be evident at every level of government.

I believe a great example of this involves the enemy combatants being held at Guantanamo. Sure, they're not U.S. citizens, and some of them are likely quite guilty. But, to demonstrate the humaneness and superiority of our judicial system, to show the rest of the world how (and why) it should be done, we should have processed these captives like we would our own citizens.

Though leading by example should start at the top, it also needs to influence how we treat our children and each other. As much as we may wish to dismiss it, perception is an important element in determining how we fit into the world puzzle, and perception is largely determined by action.

I could care less what foreigners thought of my country, honestly. Why give myself headache over something that doesn't matter?

I'd hope so. Wouldn't this be like our fifth attempt?

Since the American Revolution started...

Obviously, we haven't tried any time in a while, but we have, many times in the past.
