Not sure I understand your question. Could you clarify?

My point earlier was that most of the price we pay at the pump is taxes. And has been for many years. Hence, if the world market price of oil doubles, for example, we barely feel it, as the base price of oil has so little influence on the price we pay at the pump.

Nope. It's still under 9%.

Here's the most hilarious part...other profit margins....

Tobacco companies: 20%
American Auto companies: 18%
Computer technology: 26%
Telephone companies: 16%
Pharmaceutical companies: 18%

So here, you have all these other companies making MORE PER DOLLAR profit, but no one is saying anything about it. Why is that? Because PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT. The media throws out a big number, and calls it "profit," and the stupid citizens take it for fact, eat it up, and whine about it. They don't know squat about economics, or how companies function, but now they've got all the answers!

Brilliant.

None of those industries have recently raised prices by almost 100%. I suspect this is the difference.

If the price of the stuff used to make gas goes up, so does the gas. Crude oil prices aren't controlled by the oil companies.

Don't be an idiot. None of those other companies' raw materials didn't go up 100% either! If tobacco went up 100%, you bet you ass they'd be jacking the price up on those cancer sticks.

Again...stick to "profit margins." Quit weaving your straw men.

The public doesn't care about the price of raw materials. They care about the price they have to pay for a product. Hence my remark.

I know. I was just explaining why people were complaining.

Then they should STFU and take the bus or subway. "The public" is stupid and selfish anyway.

Perhaps. But their reaction is explained by what I said.
