Default Things I don't like about the US

The general tendency of the average American to know so little about the rest of the world, the religiousity and social conservatism, but mostly for allowing Bush to be elected....twice.

(This thread is a spin-off from my thread "Why I dislike the US" which was intended as a spoof. See that thread for further info.)

As an American, I am also appalled that we allowed Bush to be elected twice.
Not only that, but most Americans choose not to learn or understand anything about other cultures.

Very off-topic...did you come here from the Randi forum? Your avatar is almost exactly the same, which is why I ask.

There's nothing wrong with being religious and being conservative. Also, I sense a tendency that you know nothing about America.

You know what is really sad?

Europeans probably know more about American history than we do.

Uh...being religious means you believe stuff for which there is no evidence. You might as well believe in tea-pots orbiting some distant star, pink unicorns on the Moon or invisible dragons in my garage. Do you believe any of those exist? If not, why not?

Being religious also means not just that you are naive, but that you are instant cannon fodder for the whims of whatever religious authority you recognize.

But the worst thing about believing in invisible nothings is that you miss out on actually understanding anything at all about the Universe you live in.

ETA: And I wasn't saying you were conservative, just that there was a tendency for being socially conservative.

If this is true that really would be a very good rallying point for getting more money spent on and hence improving general education in the US.
