Your vote does not matter when coupled together with thousands and millions of other votes.

But in the case of like Guam were only like 1400 people voted and Obama only won by seven votes, then yea, your vote matters.

It makes a bigger difference to take part in other parts of the political process, from writing letters to working on campaigns to running for office... Voting is the basic though... and without it none of those other things matter.

Define in a very clear and obvious way "matter" in the context of this debate.

Matter-to be of importance; significant.
What I am trying to say is the only way it could make a difference was if it were cast in a direct election.

The problem with that ideology is that your beliefs are not unique to yourself. It might be true that your singular vote will not single-handedly change the outcome of the presidential election, but the reality of the situation is that your vote is not the only vote lost. You are a member of the non-voting community who have all decided to remove their voices from the process. You cannot pretend that it is only your vote that is affected by your decision. In fact, millions of people chose not to vote. Millions of votes matter. You might think that you aren't responsible for the other millions of people who don't vote and that you can concern yourself with your own single vote, but as part of a community, you encourage one another to be lazy and dismissive of the process. Your voice affects other voices. The idea that your vote does not matter is an attitude that affects the society, and when you change that attitude, the society will change and lead to better results. This is especially true because the non-vote for president leads to a habit of not voting for other things because your attitude is not specific to the president. Your attitide is "voting doesn't matter," so you won't vote.

If you wasted your time posting in this thread, then you can afford to waste your time voting just as well.
