The unfortunate fact is that many of the flags, flag lapel pins, and yellow ribbons, are made in China. Real patriotism is not in symbols but what is in one's heart. The flag did not create patriots. Patriots created the flag.

Well said.

As I always say, it is nationalism with the guise of patriotism.

P.I. considers it demeaning to feminize his references to other posters. As a woman, I think he's actually paying them a compliment.

It was not me who said that anyone who does not support the mission does not support the troops. It was you.

Telling someone that you support them, just not where they are or what they're doing, is sort of a left handed compliment at best.

I agree. If you do not support the mission, then you do not fully support the troops.

Half hearted is not all that great. But it is better than being left out in the cold.

Then again. Most of those that support the troops only support them in word, not in any form of action.

I respectfully disagree with you on this.

I didn't agree with the mission even when I was over there. Did I somehow not support the men and women I was serving with though?? Did I not support myself?? lol.

I had a job to do, and because it was my job I did it to the very best of my ability while I was there. Because I didn't support the war though I chose not to re-enlist.

I didn't want to be away from my family for a war I didn't believe was necessary.

But ill flat out say right now that I HOPE that we get the job done over there, that we accomplish our mission, that the Iraqi's end up with a stable and democratic nation and that all of our heroes serving over there get home safe as quickly as possible.

In other words I want us to WIN over there. If that means the Bush administration looks good then I wish for that as well.

I dont like the Bush admin, I dont like Bush, I dont agree with our reasons for going to war in Iraq and I think it has been horribly mismanaged.....But with that said I hope I end up wrong about all those things and it becomes a great success.

I dont know how else to put it, but my point is that you CAN be opposed to the war as a whole but still be rooting for us to win, and be supporting the troops.

More than anything else I want them to return home safe to their families.

Exactly. Most pay lip service to it. Or they put cute little bumper stickers on their cars!
