I had a job to do, and because it was my job I did it to the very best of my ability while I was there. Because I didn't support the war though I chose not to re-enlist.

I didn't want to be away from my family for a war I didn't believe was necessary.

But ill flat out say right now that I HOPE that we get the job done over there, that we accomplish our mission, that the Iraqi's end up with a stable and democratic nation and that all of our heroes serving over there get home safe as quickly as possible.

In other words I want us to WIN over there. If that means the Bush administration looks good then I wish for that as well.

I dont like the Bush admin, I dont like Bush, I dont agree with our reasons for going to war in Iraq and I think it has been horribly mismanaged.....But with that said I hope I end up wrong about all those things and it becomes a great success.

I dont know how else to put it, but my point is that you CAN be opposed to the war as a whole but still be rooting for us to win, and be supporting the troops.

More than anything else I want them to return home safe to their families.

Well in my mind, if you want us to finish it and win, then you are supporting the mission.

(*)(*)(*)(*) THE TROOPS
A Beastly Opinion

By Ian Murphy

So, 4000 rubes are dead. Cry me the Tigris. Another 30,000 have been seriously wounded. Boo (*)(*)(*)(*)ing hoo. They got what they asked for—and cool robotic limbs, too.

Likely, just reading the above paragraph made you uncomfortable. But why?

The benevolence of America’s “troops” is sacrosanct. Questioning their rectitude simply isn’t done. It’s the forbidden zone. We may rail against this tragic war, but our soldiers are lauded by all as saints. Why? They volunteered to partake in this savage idiocy, and for this they deserve our utmost respect? I think not.

The nearly two-thirds of us who know this war is bull(*)(*)(*)(*) need to stop sucking off the troops. They get enough action raping female soldiers and sodomizing Iraqi detainees. The political left is intent on “supporting” the troops by bringing them home, which is a good thing. But after rightly denouncing the administration’s lies and condemning this awful war, relatively sensible pundits—like Keith Olbermann—turn around and lovingly praise the soldiers’ brave service to the country. Why?

The rest of this idiots ranting are here

http://www.buffalobeast.com/126/(*)(...an.Murphy.html
This is just revolting anti-American foaming by people who are so filled with hate for this country that they can't see the sacrifice by young Americans giving it all to do the right thing.

I'd like to say more but the argument is so idiotic that it is below contempt and that says it all.

This guy goes a little overboard, but I understand how angry and frustrated people are with the current situation.

This nation does have a tendency to support the troops blindly, when they do have a choice to serve as we have a quasi-volunteer military.

This argument would not have been valid in the first few months of the war, but now that half a decade has passed, soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines have had the chance to leave (and many have). Thus, most of the remaining servicemen agree with the current policy of global militaristic aggression. It is their own decision to sign up and continue to fight for this policy. Thus, they must live with the consequences of their decision.

I am indifferent to US soldiers now. I neither support, nor scorn them. They have made a personal decision, one I disagree with, but ultimately one that has minimal impact on the future of this country.

Eventually this war will be deemed as too expensive, we will cut our losses, and pull out while claiming total victory. Iraq will go on its way, and barring another Bush seizing power, this war will only be remembered as just another bungled operation like Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Yugoslavia, Somalia, etc.

If Korea was a win, there would only be one Korea. A free, democratic, pro-Western, capitalist Korea.

Californian,
Sorry to inform you but, people in your state don't like the military.
So you would say such things. Yet, I have a peace of land I sometimes
live at in CA, And when I want to come back to America I am just 2 hours away from
america. LOL

Californian's are not Americans.

I dont support our reasons for going there and still think it was a waste of time....

At THIS point though dont you kind of have to support the mission?? If it fails that country will fall into complete and utter chaos......MUCH worse than we have seen since the start of the war.

I support victory because it means that nation has been stabilized and our troops get to come home.

Failure means we get forced out of that country, a full blown civil war erupts like we haven't yet seen, and Iran comes in and a huge conflict breaks out with countless innocent lives being lost.......At levels we haven't even come close to seeing yet.

So yeah im supporting our mission over there at THIS point because I dont want to see those things I described. That doesn't mean I like the reasons we went there or that I wanted to even be in this position in the first place.

I'll admit that sometimes soldier-worship gets a bit out of hand. Honestly, its a bit absurd to call every soldier a hero, just like playing games where everyone is a winner. Soldiers however, should not be treated anywhere near this blatant disrespect some people seem to have, like supporting the murder of American troops. Whether we agree with the cause or not, American soldiers have protected this country and have been an integral part in why we are so great. And, the US military is still the supreme ass-kicking force in the world, so that we can both maintain our own quality of life and help improve that of others. Regardless of what you think about the conflict, soldiers are really just other Americans like us. Many have their faults, some are probably jerks, but overall they're good people doing their job. And that job often requires the risk of getting killed. So lets treat our brothers in arms with respect. To our troops, I wholeheartedly salute you.
