Default The Purpose of Government

What is it? Please be explicit as possible. This is a relatively simple question, so let's see what you think.

Personally, I think the government's only purposes are to:

1.) Protect the rights, life, liberty, and property, of all the individuals in the nation.
2.) Defend the country from foreign or domestic invasion or subversion.
3.) Protect the free market from the forces of monopolies.
4.) Provide a system that represents the people, so that the power of the government is put in check.
5.) Ensure that no one person or group in the government becomes so powerful as to prevent any of the previous purposes.

I gotta say... we've yet ANOTHER good guy!

Welcome aboard... great post.

You'll find the left hesitant to chime in, as they prefer to operate in the all important "echo-chamber."

Best to find the threads which are acting as such and bust'em up...

The proper role of government?

Make sure my rights aren't infringed upon.

Defend the Constitution (although I think we need a new one) from domestic and foreign threats.

This is figure approximates the numbers from Iraq Body Count, the most well documented, and highly regarded, source of civilian Iraq deaths from violence during our war with Iraq.

So your logic is that if we are not there, the number will go down... That makes perfect sense... not.

If we wrote a new constitution there would be a McDonald's logo on it, F that.

True.

Although, while the Constitution itself is genius in nature, it has been completely ineffective in stopping the growth of government. It is only a paper after all.

Well, the whole system is genius, truly. It prevents true immediate change, and thank god for that. However, not all government is bad, but not all government is good. We should demand a system that separates the bad from the good.

But that is the problem. Truthfully, the masses of Americans don't care or like the system. They like government.

Which scares me.
