Default How todays immigrants will shape America

Acouple of my friends (Indian and Latino) and I (latino) were discussing whether our kids would keep of our cultural mores and identity (food, language, religion, games, etc...) the was past down from our immigrant parents? Also we ask how our if and how our cultures would change the land scape of America?

They'll add something new to this culture just like every other previus group of immigrants. Diversity is strength my friend.

Chances are with each passing generation the kids will more resemble the general American culture and less that of the immigrants they were born of.
That's not to say they won't contribute something or that what is the general American culture is anything monolithic or immutable.
The vagueness of what makes up American culture is part of what makes it so strong.

Yeah, my in-laws used to have to go to Chicago to eat at an Indian restaurant... Now we can just go a couple miles.
That is a major benefit to immigrant populations.

Yeah, I can't understand what it is with our anglo ancestors and their obsession with bland food! People from hotter climates seem to have a better idea of what food should be.

These days there is nothing that I do not spice with some chile powder from an Asian grocery store (yes, it is better than the kind at the regular grocery store).

Food is probably my favorite thing about immigration. How else could I eat a tasty Ethiopian dish in the middle of the prairies?

I am all for immigration and the broadening cultural experience we are able to get right here at home. Authentic dishes from around the globe are available like never before. What I hope is that we don't continue to see the cultural isolation that is present in some asian and latino cultures. Assimilation isn't a bad thing, but some groups will fight it tooth and nail, however I imagine this feeling will subisde as we see 3rd and 4th generations of these immigrants.

For the sake of keeping this civil, I'm not going to breach the topic of illegal immigration.

I love Indian food especially since there is so much variety, I'm left in wondering how they get so much variety since they don't use meat? It's great tasting food regardless.

I'm also wonder whether Muslims-born and/or non-Christian Americans' future generations will continue to follow their religion since this is an overwhelmingly Christian-populated country?
