Default Why I like the US

The US helped greatly in ridding my country of the Nazis during WWII. The US has a fabulous Constitution (the first in the world?), filled with wonderful stuff, and short, sweet and to the point. Hollywood makes the coolest special-effects movies.

The US has wonderful scenery with amazing parks and monuments. They have made some wonderful technological advances. They have made some of the best movies ever and TV shows. The have great colleges and universities. They have some of the world's best athletes. They have some truly amazing people who live there. They have some great bands and artists like CCR, The Byrds, Built To Spill, the eels and Johnny Cash to name a few. Great composers of the past along with many jazz, blues and R&B greats. They excel in Fine Arts and other culture. My favourite Hockey teams are in the US and they just have so many wonderful people.

The Constitution of the United States of America represents the finest piece of political thought ever created. It made a stable, free, and just society in a time where democracy was thought to be horribly inefficient unworkable.

Not to say that it's perfect though, it did nothing to ensure that all of its citizens possessed their rights to life, liberty, and property. (Slaves)

Default Great!

It is such a pleasure to read the nice things that are being said on this thread about America. Our nation has struggled with many things in it's 200+ years, but the good has always far out weighed the bad.

Below is a rather long piece on America, it is really well worth the read.

The Rise of the Rest

It's true China is booming, Russia is growing more assertive, terrorism is a threat. But if America is losing the ability to dictate to this new world, it has not lost the ability to lead.

I just read that article in Newsweek this morning. Such a great tribute to our country, but also realistic and enlightening.
