Only reason McCain won the nomination was because he was the most electable because he has been more moderate in the past. When you looked at people like Mitt and Guiliani, these guys were hardcore right-wingers.

I disagree!! Giuliani is even more liberal than mccain, but he is far less competent or likable. Romney pretended to be a conservative for the primaries, but had a history of being very liberal socially(very liberal for a republican of course). I do agree however, that he was by far the most electable candidate they had running. The only republican I can think of who would have been a better candidate in terms of general election is chuck hagel.
