Default Declaration of Independence

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was glancing at this document last night...I'm taking the following text...out of the total
context of the document...but it bears some historical semblance to our present day situation in Iraq.

Although my loyalty belongs to those men & women tasked with the duties of establishing a secure Iraq; there are striking examples of why this war is in many ways, a grievous error.

I think I must acknowledge this to my own dismay.

My opinion of course

Quoting now...parts of the Declaration of Independence...........

*referring to The history of the present King of Great Britain*

IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

Default One difference

We were colonies of Great Britain.

In Iraq, we are not their protectors, or their leaders.

We are there until the situation is stablized. While the Iraqis would like us out, conservatives and liberals alike would like to be out too. In the case of the Brits, they were our brothers and our countryman. It was our King and Parlament that was causing the greivences. In Iraq, we would like nothing more than to see them governing themselves so we can leave.

...

And here is one of many good reasons why the war in Iraq is not a grievous error, it is taken from the new Iraqi constitution :

Article 15:

Every individual has the right to enjoy life, security and liberty. Deprivation or restriction of these rights is prohibited except in accordance with the law and based on a decision issued by a competent judicial authority.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...101201450.html

When in the future the mass of coalition troops are home and Iraq is at peace, the rights and priviledges enjoyed by ALL Iraqi citizens gained through the sacrifice and struggle made by the coalition forces during these times will be worth the temporary troubles.

To rid Iraq of Sadam and to sap the terrorist puss from the middle-east all negative events will pale into insignificance.

I think he's making the contrast of our current uncontrolled answer to no one Government/Administration. Lots of similarities. Regardless of the timethis was written ; the fundamental Descriptors are spot on when trying to describe this current administration.

Religious Right Wing Christian Communist:
The Ten Commandments have profoundly influenced the... formation of our country. That influence is clearly seen in the Declaration of Independence, which declared that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...
The Ten Commandments impose the death penalty upon "He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone." That is hardly consistent with the principle that all men are created with an equal right to religious liberty.

Oh wow, I initiated a thread that already existed.

The Declaration of Independence

I was patting myself on the back for this enlightened discovery, when in fact it has been previously been brought up in older threads

In the immortal words of one Homer Simpson.

Where do the Ten Commandments say all men are created equal?
