at various times both parties appeal to me.
but only sometimes.
it seems to me that republicans are better suited for taking care of America on a global scale,
and the democrats are better suited for taking care of Americans on a domestic scale.
any moderate voice that could bridge the two,
is drowned out by those who don't care about the good of the country,
they only care about beating the other side.

The current state of the nation is f'd up. That's because the two dominating parties are also f'd up.

At the moment, the Republicans are more f'd up than the Democrats. Look for that to change if the Democrats get the White House.

We need people to vote libertarian.

Im a former Libertarian....I figured with my socially liberal views and fiscally conservative views it was the best fit for me.

However ive given up on it.....The party itself hasn't done enough to be an impact player in national politics.

Hopefully it will get to that point, but for now im going to vote for candidates who actually have a chance to win so that my vote isnt a giant waste of time.

I know that sounds pessimistic, but honestly we all know the Libertarian candidate for President isnt going to somehow magically pull off the upset.

For lack of better option I said "Both parties... at different times".
I could have also said neither... or one... all depends on the day.

I certainly lean Democrat and believe more in what I consider their "core values"... but there are two problems:
1. I'm not the only one who thinks he knows what their "core values" are and not everyone agrees with me.
2. I don't think they always live up to their "core values".
In particular I identify with the Democratic Freedom Caucus... the marginal, fringe left-libertarian wing of the party.

When it comes to what the parties actually do and the values those actions reflect... and the personal values of individual candidates, I can say that I either agree with both or neither.

Today I was in a pragmatic and positive mood. That's why I said "both".

Yeah but imagine if everyone that felt the same as you decided to stop voting for the lesser of two evils and started voting for who they *actually* wanted as President. We would instantly have a viable third party.

And I used to say that all the time when I was a Libertarian and it never made a difference.

You can pretty much tell from polling and what not who is going to be competitive in a race. If a 3rd party candidate has a chance, then ill vote for them. Im not going to waste my vote though so that I can be a part of the "prestigious" 1.5% of the Libertarian vote we will see in this upcoming election lol.

Local elections are different because 3rd party candidates have more of a chance, and yes I do vote 3rd party quite often in those.

In the end, does it even make sense to have parties?
It seems to force everyone to compromise his or her beleifs or stand on issues, and accept the candidate that has the fewest negatives.

Of course on the flip side in order for us all to have a candidate we are perfectly aligned with, we would all have to run for office ourselves.

I beleive a four or five party system would be much more beneficial than what we have now. having only two viable parties seems to be almost perfectly designed to divide the nation down the middle!
