In case folks are wondering what that flag is in my avatar.

This is the American flag which flew proudly over Ft. Sumter. There are 33 stars.

The battle of Ft. Sumter represented the start of the Civil War in the U.S. in 1861

To me, it represents the preservation of the Union against the Confederacy attempts to secede from the Union. Obviously the reasons for the secession
are many, but predominantly Slavery was an issue. The Confederacy wanted to maintain the practice of Slavery in order to provide cheap labor for an agriculturally based economy.

Therefore this flag is representative of my personal stance against Racism in all it's forms.... as was done in 1865 when this same flag was part of the celebration of the Union victory. The Union of the States will be preserved. Ignorance will be defeated. Americans are defined by our freedoms, not by the color of our skin. All will have the rights guaranteed to us by our Constitution.

These rights WILL be supported and defended.

Then why do we still insist on categorizing americans? African Americans, Hispanic Americans, white Americans? Seems to me like the people who speak out against racism are the ones most guilty of separatism!!!

Around 5% of southern whites owned slave when the Civil War broke out!

I think it was a bigger issue than slavery (not that that isn't an issue, in fact it is one of the better things resulting from the war)! That is just the governments spin on the matter. Remember the winners usually get to write the history books, and we usually get a biased point of view because of it!

State rights were the main issues in my opinion! People had better start paying attention today as well!
