Default Are we hurting the peace process?

By supporting Israel's expansion, we jeapordize any possible peace that could be reached in the Middle East.
Forming the nation of Israel was a huge mistake.

The arab (muslim) nations are unwilling to negotiate. we will not allow them to drive Israel into the sea. As long as they remain unwilling to compromise, there will be no movement towards peace.

personally I dont see the attraction of that tract of dirt...I would be perfectly happy to assimilate all Israelis into our own culture and hand over Israel to the Arabs. But the Israelis probably wont go for that.

This is not a retorical question - it's a genuine one:

Has anyone ever tried to negotiate with the Arabs? I can't think of a time when the US has tried, but then again - I have only had one cup of coffee today (lacking brain fuel)

The "Israelis" do not assimilate very well, after all, they are "God's Chosen People".

That is why they chose to overwhelm and capture "that tract of dirt" it is their "Birthright".

All Theists seem to say that. Thats nothing new to Americans. And many of us have Jewish ancestry already.

If you want to get technical....they were there first. Historically speaking.

Just like American Indians were technically here first as well. Not that any of it matters to me...I dont make distinctions based on race, only on culture/ideology.

Default big sigh...

This is an extremely complicated issue.

Israel should not have been formed?!? Hmmm.... well, in my opinion Jews trying to escape NAZI Germany should not have been turned away from nation after nation (including America) and sent back to Germany to suffer and die.

It seems that beneath the surface lies a constant hatred and fear of Jews... ready to surface at any moment. Jews make great scapegoats... Always have...

I believe it is of the utmost importance that there be a safe place... a way of making sure that the Holocaust can never be repeated...

But tensions in the middle east continue to build. I think we need to find a way to begin to solve this tangled mess...

It's very hard because everyone involved is so entrenched... and everyone feels themselves to be the victim... fighting the good fight...

Default Just to qualify my statments

I am a "Born Again Atheist" and have been for some time now. So, don't think this is some Christian nut on a tirade. As far as I am concerned, religion is a sign of mental derangement. Being "God's Chosen People" is biblically accurate and it is a very clear statement expressing "Racial" superiority. If anyone feels the need to cling to this insane assertion then don't be surprised if persecution is always knocking at your door.

Technically, the whole "Birthright" to Israel belonged to Esau and Jacob did a con job on his own father, Isaac to get it. This, of course, is where Judaism and Islam split. So, anyone making this case of backstabbing a brother and deceiving a father creates a legitimate birthright is of a very questionable character in my book.

I will follow this up in a bit......

Most U.S. presidents have tried in some way, shape, or form. The most recent attempt was in the Clinton administration. They had reached an actual agreement called the Oslo Accords. It had been hammered out between Israel and Yassir Arafat, put into words, printed up and was ready for signing. Then Yassir got cold feet and walked away. It was the closest both parties ever got to an actual agreement. I think that now as he looks back on it, Arafat secretly wishes he had taken the deal. Too bad so sad.

Default response to Tricky-White-Devil

I don't think that "God's chosen people" was meant as a statement to of infered superiority... but rather a reflection that a) Judiasm was the first monotheistic religion when supposedly God told Abraham to only worship Him... and also that Jews were "chosen" to suffer.

Great?

Anyway, I'm not religious either, I don't know if there's a God. I don't know if it's possible to know from this point of view...

But, my point stands, which is some how, some way, I believe we need to make sure there can never be another Holocaust.

(of any sort)

I don't think America supports Israel's expansion. We support its existence.
