The nation was caught up in a war fever, fomented by the government, even though there was no war. Striking union members were provoked into a riot by government forces. Sixty-seven workers were killed, some shot in the back. A young correspondent reported, "I understood deep in my bones and blood what fascism was." A leading intellectual who'd signed on with the government declared in a lecture to the students, "The ordeal of war brings out the magnificent resources of youth."

- The British ambassador cabled London to alert his superiors to the spreading hysteria fomented by the nation's new leader. The "starved loyalties and repressed hero-worship of the country have found in him an outlet and a symbol." Visiting the rural hinterlands, an aide reported back on the brewing cult of personality: "Every house I visited --mill worker or unemployed --had a picture of the President . . . He is at once God and their intimate friend; he knows them all by name, knows their little town and mill, their little lives and problems. And though everything else fails, he is there, and will not let them down."

- Though the crisis was economic in nature, the new national commander had promised to seek the "power to wage a war against the emergency, as great as the power that would be given to me if we were in fact invaded by a foreign foe . . .I assume unhesitatingly the leadership of this great army of our people dedicated to a disciplined attack upon our common problems. (pg. 121-122, from Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism)

There can be no doubt that FDR was a fascist. He advocated socialist policy upon the flag of a sovereign state... That's a fascist. Had he advocated socialist policy outside the scope of national sovereignty, he would have identified himself as a communist...

But FDR was no less a fascist than was Bill and is Hill Clinton. He certainly has no fascist bona fides superior to those of O,Hussein theagent of change...

Each are advocates of 'the third way;' each promotes that the purest essence of reason is found in 'independence, that the moderate who sees truth in both sides is the most reasonable and that friend is the trait of the progressive and the progressive movement is precisely that which spawned fascism. Progressives are socialists, which seek to induce socialist policy within the scope of a sovereign state, thus progressives are fascist.

FDR you say? FDR, whose decision to enter the war resulted in the demise of the fascist state, which was on the verge of winning until FDR's commitment of forces to oppose that fascist regime, you are trying to say FDR was a facist. laughable

why is it the far right wing nuts, who imbibe from the trough of facist thought, who oppose independent thinking just as the facists, who oppose tolerance of independent views just as the fascists, who - just like the facists - identify those who are different than they as the reason for all of their problems, want so badly to appear not to be like the facists? there is only one way. understand what the fascists represent and do something different ... instead of mimicking their dogma

So fascists, who believe that their individual states are superior and must take over the world through military force, can't possibly be against one another, even if they have to compete for world domination?

And conservatives, who support individual freedom of all though and action, are just like fascists? Laughable, I say.

I agree, George Rockwell is definitely the worst. It's hard to believe that someone could actually found an American Nazi Party... Huey Long did some questionable things, agreeably.

ROFL... Here we find the idiocy which requires that if you oppose a state which is fascist, you must be anti-fascism. Despite the overriding problem that the fascist state is out to destroy your allies, you and conquer the world on the whole. This is the same idiocy which requires that because the fascists were attacking the communists, that they could not have been leftists... The issue in both cases had zero to do with ideology and everything to do with the aquisition of power and the demand that each respective player, all leftists, were determined to dominate the world.

This segment of the farce requires that fascists are right wingers on the basis that they are intolerant of 'independent thought', while the leftists who vehemently denies possessing any potential similarity to fascism, reels in opposition of independent thought... "just as the fascists."

Again, fascism is nothign more than national SOCIALISM... differing in no other way than international socialism; it is in every way, wholly, solely, utterly and completely: LEFTIST!~

I think they should start with a history of populism followed by progressivism. Then they can go on to the war time policies of Wilson and FDR followed. Then they can learn about Fascism, Nazism, and Communism, followed by the actions of the New Left in the '60s. Maybe that will open their eyes.

Remind me of history all you want, I welcome it. Debate the issues, drop your labels and opinions and we'll all open our eyes together to the truth.

It would be nice if people would agree to this.

There are just so many problems with the way politics works in our country today. I'm seriously considering writing a book on them this summer and before the election.

That was mean and untrue. Just how many democrats constitute 'most'. Any statement that general is a logical fallacy.

If you think you 'know it all' then you are more ignorant than I am. I am willing to admit when I'm wrong and when I don't know something. I don't consider that a weakness, but a strength.
