As in, I'm opened minded to letting people do whatever the hell they want as long as they don't infringe on someone elses' rights.

Maximum freedom.

I'd call you a libertarian and encourage you to vote conservative in this poll.
The biggest problem in American politics today is that the two major parties don't have any ideological unity. So called "social conservatives" and neo-cons are all off-spins of the progressive movement, and firmly belong on the liberal side of the spectrum. In addition, African Americans (who used to vote for increased freedom and equality) and freedom loving, Bush hating people who now consider themselves Democrats belong on the conservative side of the spectrum. This creates the problem in politics of having to support a party that is the lesser of two evils, no matter where you are on the spectrum.

Well considering Conservatives in America only recently have been for humanitarian intervention and that 'Leftists' have gone against it, I find myself somewhere in the middle. We are just touching the tip of the iceberg here.
Americans have spent millions of our lives and trillions of of dollars to towards humanitarian intervention. We twice pulled the whole of Europe out from under leftist tyranny, which they encouraged until it became clear it was about to consume them... So spare us any nonsense which hopes to paint Americans standing behind anyone when it comes to respecting human rights.

I think you said somewhere else that you're in Northern England at university and are the conservative in your herd... So towards that end I will reserve judgment.

But I would like you to consider the British law which forbids individuals from defending themselves from violent attack, which sets individuals that contest violent attackers up for prosecution by the British government as being offensive to the peace and has resulted in numerous British citizens being prosecuted and sentenced to prison for nothing more than exercising their responsibility to defend their God given life and the rights inherent to it.

Do you see that this law and those advocating this law and others like it, completely rejects the concept of natural human rights and must, as a result inevitably must lead to a complete loss of individual freedom?

Quote:
Well just to name a few good leftist ideals or 'Liberal':

- Capitalism
- Representative Democracy
- The Right of the Individual over Government
- No Taxation without Representation
Again... these were liberals... NOT LEFTISTS. In that context I AM A LIBERAL. These are concepts which are anathema to the left.

Quote:
On a side note, do you not think that it is odd how resident of DC get taxed but aren't represented in Congress? The people of the capital of a nation that was founded because of this very injustice suffer from it?
Yeah I do... I always have. But keep in mind these are the same people that let the government strip them of their governemnt protections for the right to defend themselves through the use of a firearm; this on the premise that the government was tasked with protecting them, even while the DC courts were declaring that the government is in NO WAY OBLIGATED to protect any individual citizen... only that most vague of concepts "The People."

But it's a city operated almost entirely by the most screwball leftists you can imagine...

Oh. I know I'm a libertarian. I just wanted to see what was more befitting: conservative, moderate or liberal.

Default Flaccid neg-rep...

"Liberals are not UnAmerican. That comment, however, is."

Let me say this once more, so there is no misunderstanding... THERE ARE NO LEFTIST AMERICANS! PERIOD AND WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

Leftism is the pure antithesis of American... PERIOD!

Now if that hurts your feelings, GOOD!

It's a great thing to be an American, but as long as you adhere to leftism, you will always be the that which Americans stand against. The concept of American isn't changing to accomodate you, so if you want to be an American, it's YOU (The gutless author of the impotent Neg-rep) that has to change to become an American.

The wacked out leftists call me a "neocon" or a "right winger". The wacked out righties call me a "liberal" or "leftist" or who knows what.

I guess I must be a moderate.

I've also noticed that this forum is probably the most right wing I've ever been on, with the possible exception of the Prussian Blue forums. Which I love, I think its pointless to discuss with people who will only agree with me, especially when I could argue with lots of far right Americans.

Anyway, I'm a libertarian socialist, and my political stance is firmly rooted in enlightenment principles. I certainly am not a liberal, especially the American variant. The Democratic Party in America is centre right by most of the developed world's standards. But this forum does make me chuckle when they label the likes of Clinton as left wing..

An oxymoron if there ever was one.

And Bill Clinton was a moderate, not a leftist. His wife is the leftist.
