I have always thought that the majority of this forum is extremely conservative, but I was wondering how people identified themselves.

This poll is skewed... There is no discernable distinction between a moderate and a leftists...

You should just ask if people consider themselves Liberals or Americans.

That will just divide their vote, Publius. It's a good thing.

So your answer is conservative. No need to pollute the forum with propaganda. An American is an American if they are an American citizen. Coercing someone into believing a given belief is what I consider Un-American.

I'm saying Moderate mainly because I associate with both and definitely do not think that one set of arguments has all the right answers. Embracing only one set of ideals is setting yourself up for getting proved wrong because it is foolhardy to think that one set of ideals has all the answers. Democracy is not meant to work like that. Democracy is meant to pick the best idea's from all arguments and combine them. I'm not saying we don't need Conservatives and Liberals, I am saying that Democracy only works best when you have a rich tapestry of different people with different beliefs. The different beliefs should always be fighting for control, but one should never have absolute power, or the whole 'Democracy' goes down the toilet.

The poll is propaganda... Leftism is the pure antithesis of American. Now that's just a fact.

Being a US Citizen,now that's nothing. Any putz can be shoved through a vagina on US soil... but to be an American... THAT requires recognizing what human rights are and the sacred duty inherent in those rights and being ready to defend them, whatever the cost. Being an American means living ones life free and making it on your own, NOT depending upon the strong armed government for one sustinance, not making excuses for ones failure, picking ones self up and making it happen with the tools one has available to them.

There are NO Leftist Americans... PERIOD. And there are no such things as "Moderates." Moderates are merely leftists that lack the guts to commit.

But that's the thing see... there are no 'good' leftist ideas. All leftist ideas do is lead individuals from freedom towards tyranny.

Clearly you disagree, so towards supporting that disagreement, perhaps you'll provide some good leftist ideas, which have not lead individuals from their freedom, towards tyranny...

Because one set of ideals have yet to prove to me they are 'right'.


Well considering Conservatives in America only recently have been for humanitarian intervention and that 'Leftists' have gone against it, I find myself somewhere in the middle. We are just touching the tip of the iceberg here.

Well just to name a few good leftist ideals or 'Liberal':

- Capitalism
- Representative Democracy
- The Right of the Individual over Government
- No Taxation without Representation

On a side note, do you not think that it is odd how resident of DC get taxed but aren't represented in Congress? The people of the capital of a nation that was founded because of this very injustice suffer from it?

Update, the year is 2008. These are classical liberal ideals, or what we call today as "conservative."
