I think that there is a difference between Republicans and Conservatives, and a difference between Democrats and Liberals. Conservatives and Liberals are groups of people who have no other goal in their political life than to beat the other group, and say "ha ha" whenever they can. They also tend to be the kind of people who put their own religious beliefs and self-interest before America's wants and needs. They are usually irritional, ignorant, stubborn and just overly dedicated to whatever cause that they think they might beat the other group in. I am personally about 70% Democrat (Not Liberal), and 30% Republican (Not Conservative). If you would like examples, then I would say that John McCain is a Republican, while Dick Cheney is a conservative. On the other side, John Edwards is a Democrat, while Ted Kennedy is a Liberal.

You are explaining something exclusively through your point of view. While you are entitled as much to your opinion as anyone else, I have a different paradigm.

From my point of view, (and plugging in your logic) Dick Cheney is the Republican and McCain is the liberal-Republican. John Edwards is a liberal Democrat and Ted Kennedy is an overgrown outdated blowhard dinosaur that is almost as useful as an abacus.

IMHO, the terms liberal or conservative are neither right nor wrong. There are liberal points of view that are very valid. There are conservative points of view that are contemptuous. They're just descriptors.

Conservatives and liberals are ideologically-driven, moreso than partisans. Conservatives and liberals will support whomever best addresses their concerns, whereas partisans are, for better or worth, on someone else's boat, and have to compromise for that.
