Default Affinity Groups

How many of you belong to corporations who have formed "affinity groups" for certain racial groups or certain genders, to the exclusion of those who do not fiit the narrow defining description? In light of the prohibition against discrimination by race and gender, shouldn't these be illegal???

Can you explain more what an affinity group is?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affinity_group
This is all I can come up with.

Sounds like a private organization forming an interest group. Why should that be illegal?
Why shouldn't it be allowed for co-workers to form them?
Are they doing it on the clock? If so... isn't it up to the company?

It should not be up to the company, because it would be the equivalent of allowing KKK meetings on site during work hours. These things should be illegal!!!

We have tons of them. For every last minority group you can imagine.

Have those where you work, do they? We don't.

I'm not in favor of making ANY group "illegal" if their activities are legal. It is not against the law to be a racist.

But please... tell us more about these "affinity" groups of yours. I need to be OUTRAGED about something this afternoon, and this might just be the thing.

Au contrair! It certainly is if you are a company!!!!!!!!!

Well there is one called :man to man" that is exclusively for African American Males" , another for working women, another for latino workers. Ironically none for white males or white fenales. They are allowed time during work hours to meet and discuss issues that might promote their specific group.

If a company is "racist"? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Have you tried to start up a group? Or are you just complaining because... well... I can't think of a good reason.

Even if the equivalence holds (which it only does in the loosest interpretation)... why should that be illegal?
It's the company's money. The KKK is a legally existing organization (as long as it refrains from illegal activity).

I realize that you have comprehension problems on this issue from prior posts, but racist means you discriminate improperly against a race in favor of one or more others. So a company that discriminates against a race by excluding it from a company sponsored group, that company can be said to be racist!!! BTW, the company will not allow an affinity group based on the white race!

Because there are laws against creating a hostile working environment for employees. If there are groups that the company has an affinity for, that you cannot join because of race or gender, that is one definition of the creation of a hostile working environment. Anyone who thinks a company can just do what it wants in this day and age, hasn't been in the working world lately!!!
