Default What a waste of money?

Putting aside how Democrats or Republicnas want to fight terrorism, I am simply confounded by the amount of money spent on this war since 9/11. It's been what, 3, 4, 500 billion?

I look at this in a utilitarian view, we're spending that much money to prevent incidents, that even before this massive "war" were rather rare and never killed more than a few hundred.

Why not simply spend this money to simply, in one large swoop, simply vive healthcare to every American - saving thousands of lives, bringing million off the streets - saving this lives, bringing medicine, vaccines and such to Africa and Asia - immediately saving millions of lives (you know it would), and countless other humanitrian excercises.

People always respond to me by saying "oh yea, and simply let the terrorists attack us," thats not the point. I;m saying terrorists could never hurt enough people, EVER, to justify so much money spent on protecting us, if the same cash can be used to save MILLIOn all over the world.

Its a utlitarian point of view, then again, I have an inkling its a a strategy used by the Dems. and Reps. to keep us all thinking that we're being well protected by teh government. Simple propoganda?

....We have to spend "whatever it takes" on the WAR on TERROR. My GRIPE is that we have "mismanaged the funds".

Default h

But thats the thing, why spend "whatever it takes," rits not an efficient way of saving lives, anyway you look at it. You can save way more people, have way less controversy, and not have the world hate us, in fact love us more.

Its that simple to me, is it really worth spending so much just keep us "happy" and feeling like we're protected?

Default .

All this money is spent fighting terrorism to protect our country and the U.S. citizens' lives. If we did nothing after 9/11 we would have allowed more attacks to take place (many plots have been uncovered, even though you may not hear about some)

I agree with MUNKO-1970 that we are really mismanaging our funds. Also I think we should deal with this "Massive Health Care" thing after the war and reform. We have a bit to much to do what with rebuilding a country to spend 500 billion more on health care.

Whats with tthis health care problem anyway? wear a helmet already! jeez...

Default k

Clearly no one understand my point. First, I wasnt saying spend 500 billion on healthcare, it was juts an example. My whole point is, simply, why spend such a heapload of money to save a few thousand when yu can save millions with the same cash. Why is this obvious to me and to no one else?

Because others have a different take on the issue. It is the govt's job to protect its citizens. Providing health care (as an example) is not part of the govt's mandate, protecting people is.

Why is that obvious to us and not to you?

Default In that case...

That is one of the most corrupt government fallacies ever.

We're sacrificing millions of lives so we can protect thousands. Does that sound right to anybody?

Oh I understand. Americans would rather have us save 1,000 people from a terrorist attack than a million in Africa from AIDS.

See people? This corruption demonstrates why Bill Clinton was a much better president than Bush. For Clinton, it was about humanitarian causes. (support for AIDs victims in Africa, the war in Bosnia) For Bush, it's about getting re-elected.
