Reagan didn't have to Pander to anyone, he won his first election in a landslide victory of 489 to 49 Electoral Votes!
Only 6 states voted for Carter.

Reagan's next election against Mondale, all he had to do was say, "Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" and that's All it took. He won another EVEN BIGGER landslide victory with 525 to 13 Electoral Votes.
He won the Election with all but a single State!
Proving that Supply Side Economics DOES in fact work.

What has that to do with the question?

Sure, he won, but it was reagan who courted the heretofore "Jesus freaks" and invited them into the Republican tent. So much for any shred of libertarian thought.

I've always taken Republicans to be generally more pessimistic about human nature and Democrats to be generally more optimistic about human nature. Of course, one might also reverse this with the situation in Iraq--Republicans being more optimistic and Democrats being more pessimistic. Republicans might also be more optimistic towards Bush and Democrats more pessimistic towards Bush. Democrats are probably more optimistic towards Obama than Republicans. Really, the optimism/pessimism thing can go both ways.

It was the Religious Right, these so called "Jesus Freaks" who helped to CREATE the Republican Party.

Why do you think the Republican Party was created?

Demoncraps insisted on only Land Owners having the right to vote, and of course, they were completely against giving freedom to Slaves.

The Republican Party was formed out of the Religious Rights view that both of these were egregiously wrong and needed to fixed for us to be a truly free nation.

Later the Republicans with the help of the Religious Right, were successful in passing the Equal Rights Amendment, keep in mind the only reason Dr. King, WHO WAS A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN, switched to the Democrats, was because the Democrats, finally realizing they were on the Losing end of the spectrum, offered to write a new piece of Reverse Discrimination Legislation called, Affirmative Action. Republicans were against this because in principal they felt it would be divisive, they were Demonized for this and the Demonizing has never stopped.

Hell, if it were up to the Democrats, the only people allowed to vote today, would be Rich White Land Owners, but you guys are so stupid, buying into everything they say, you don't realize that they're only looking out for themselves.

Honestly I've never met a happy Democrat, they're always in a bad mood, everything gets them Mad. Michelle Obama is the Perfect image of your average Democrat, look at her with her 300K a year job and she's Sooooo angry!

Well, optimism doesn't necessarily require a good mood. Optimism is more of an expectation for favorable things, while pessimism expects unfavorable or bad things. Optimism often comes with a good mood and pessimism with bad, but bad moods and optimism are not mutually exclusive, although the conclusion seems logical.

None of this has anything to do with Reagan's comment about libertarianism, which is what my comment addressed.
