Default The Not Too Bright Candidate's Wife

Last week appearing on The Today Show, Cindy McCain, wife of Senator John McCain, used that opportunity to cast insinuations towards Michelle Obama, wife of Senator Barack Obama. As of today, we have not heard one single comment from Michelle Obama uttering any remarks about Cindy McCain. Cindy McCain would like to project a negative image about the wife of her husband's opponent, so she makes insinuations. By her own actions it's clear Cindy McCain would like to bring the character of the wives of the presidential candidates into question. That may turn out to be not such a wise decision.

What about Cindy McCain? What do you know about her? I'll fill in a few blanks, not with insinuations, but with actual facts. I'll document the facts and provide sources.

Cindy McCain is rich. She didn't create her wealth, rather inherited it, but her estimated net worth may exceed $100 million. Prior to marrying Cindy, John McCain had to sign a pre-nuptial agreement protecting her inheritance. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...o_n_94833.html)

It is a fact that Cindy McCain had an affair with John McCain. His wife had become injured in an accident and he was on the prowl. She knew he was married, and had been for fourteen years. Cindy McCain started her affair with him, which subsequently ended his marriage a year later. In addition to the deception John and Cindy perpetrated on his wife, they both lied to each other about their ages. John McCain jokes about the deception and once cracked about his new marriage, "So our marriage is really based on a tissue of lies."

Cindy McCain has had a few other issues in her past, other than her marriage-ending affair, with John McCain.

She has had a problem with drug abuse and addiction. She claimed it was brought on in part by her direct role in the Keating Five corruption scandal both Cindy and John McCain were involved in. Earlier, Cindy McCain founded the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT), which was a non-profit organization that organized trips for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide Mash-like emergency medical care to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world areas. During 1992, Tom Gosinski, the director of government and international affairs for AVMT, discovered that she was stealing drugs from her own charity that were intended for disaster relief in third-world countries. Later, her parents, not her husband John McCain, staged an intervention to force her to get help. She had to admit to her husband about her drug abuse problem and thefts, and then attended a drug treatment facility with outpatient sessions.

In January 1993, Cindy McCain terminated Gosinski's employment, the man that discovered her drug thefts, on grounds of "budgetary reasons". In spring 1993, Gosinski tipped off the Drug Enforcement Administration to investigate McCain's drug theft, and a federal investigation ensued. McCain's defense team, led by Washington lawyer John Dowd, secured an agreement with the U.S. Attorney's office that limited her punishment to financial restitution and enrollment in a diversion program without any public disclosure. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cindy_Hensley_McCain)

Cindy McCain has had several other questionable encounters with violations of the law. During several of John McCain's campaigns he used her family's office equipment, such as computers and copiers and Cindy McCain personally paid some of the campaign's bills. Cindy McCain's father, James Hensley, and other Hensley & Co. executives gave so much the Federal Election Commission ordered McCain to give some of it back. During this presidential campaign, the use of Cindy McCain's private jet by her husband is again coming under campaign scrutiny. Although both Michelle and Barack Obama have made a full disclosure of their tax returns, Cindy McCain has refused to do the same.(http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...o_n_94833.html)

Only a few weeks ago, the Associated Press published a story about Cindy McCain's financial involvement in funds with investments in Sudan businesses. Humanitarian groups, and some politicians, including Senator Sam Brownback (Republican / Kansas), have taken aim at organizations and government entities like pension funds that had investments in companies doing business in the Sudan for quite awhile. Her holdings were apparentlyly considerable. Once the story became public Cindy McCain sold her share "for at least $2 million". Brian Rogers, a spokesman for John McCain's campaign, confirmed the sale and said, “As soon as she was made aware, she sold it.” Brian Rogers also said. “Senator and Mrs. McCain are committed to doing everything possible to end the genocide in Darfur.” Cindy McCain got "committed" to that cause only after The Associated Press published the story, and she was paid "at least $2 million". (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2...n-investments/)

In summary, based on the insinuations of Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama may not patriotic enough to suit her. Based on the facts, public, documented facts, Cindy McCain was an adulterer, helped end her now husband's marriage, was directly involved in one of our nation's most publicized political corruption scandals, was a drug addict, a thief from her own charity, skirted campaign laws, and profited from business holdings in a nation practicing genocide. She's even been caught plagiarizing cookie recipes... twice! And she wants to make insinuations? (http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archi...8/1151595.aspx)

Apparently she's also not too bright. The adage about living in a glass house and wanting to throw rocks comes to mind.

Become? When was it not?

Last I checked, Cindy McCain wasn't running for office--and neither was Michelle Obama. I could care less what either of them eat for breakfast, or whether they snort cocaine every day.

The Republicans that keep trying to make the case that we should examine Obama's wife seem to think so. They wanted to bring in the question of wives into the campaign. That's certainly where it started. I agree it's ludicrous to have this issue, but since the Republicans brought it up, it's fair to take a look at the other side.

Fair enough. It's interesting what both have been up to. It's a bit odd that people in such high profile positions would do such stupid things...

Who cares?

I wouldn't care if either candidate had affairs before, currently had mistresses, or any other relationships that were not part of the "traditional American family structure" because it has nothing to do with their ability to lead the nation. Whichever candidate's views I support the most gets my vote. Their personal life is just that, personal.

Again, I feel that candidate's wives should be off limits.

Not so. Michelle Obama injected herself into this campaign. If she would sit on the sidelines and keep her mouth shut, she would not be the topic of political conversation. However, she chooses otherwise.

Now we know that she is married to a Baby Daddy, she is a racist, she hates America [until only recently] and she she wears her hair just like Jacqueline Kennedy did.
