Default McCain - War for Oil

Is McCain the only politician honest enough to admit the Iraq war was for oil, or did he accidentally let it slip out?

I am curious at to the thoughts of others here.

McCain knows how to get the vote. He didn't originally admit to this reasoning; he might just be telling the voters what it is that they want to hear.

its so bizarre that someone admitting that oil may have played a role in our decision to go to war in Iraq is a newsworthy event.

I do have to say that if McCain doesn't backtrack, and maintains his point he will earn a good deal of my respect, which he has lost considerably from the 2000 election compared to now.

Well, that explanation would make sense. The first one so far.

McCain is either a populist (which I can't believe, I've tried) or he's an amazing politician that has a hard time concealing his flip flopping (which doesn't really matter because we don't seem to mind it).

Recently, the American people have been accepting of our interest in the Mid East for oil. The media runs the news based on what we think. I'm not at all surprised that this is on the news now.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure of your meaning here, please clarify.

If I am understanding your point correctly here, I would disagree since this was not a reason given to the public or to congress for invading Iraq.

It's common knowledge that we went over there, at least in part, for a part in influence in those countries, that is, oil. If McCain were to maintain that we went only to ensure democracy for those that were oppressed, he wouldn't get anywhere. By agreeing with the general population that we went for oil, he is in many ways gaining our trust in being honest.

It would also make this administration liars on grand scale.

Which would surprise who exactly? Wouldn't even move the meter for me.
