First of all, cool map.

Second of all, Tunisia?!?! Come on, we're the freakin' Treasure State! The Big Sky! Our state animal is the Grizzly Bear. The freakin' Grizzly Bear!

This is based on GDP. For instance, my state (Missouri) has roughly the same GDP as Poland.
very cool indeed, tanx ABNS!

Pictures are much better. Paragon's numbers made my head hurt... especially when it put DC on top of the list.

We do have 200 ICBMs, though. Or did; I can't imagine they'd let a third world state like us have WMDs.

Icon10 Top Ten

  1. California, it is often said, would be the world’s sixth- or seventh-largest economy if it was a separate country. Actually, that would be the eighth, according to this map, as France (with a GDP of $2,15 trillion) is #8 on the aforementioned list.
  2. Texas’ economy is significantly smaller, exactly half of California’s, as its GDP compares to that of Canada (#10, $1,08 trillion).
  3. Florida also does well, with its GDP comparable to Asian tiger South Korea’s (#13 at $786 billion).
  4. Illinois – Mexico (GDP #14 at $741 billion)
  5. New Jersey – Russia (GDP #15 at $733 billion)
  6. Ohio – Australia (GDP #16 at $645 billion)
  7. New York – Brazil (GDP #17 at $621 billion)
  8. Pennsylvania – Netherlands (GDP #18 at $613 billion)
  9. Georgia – Switzerland (GDP #19 at $387 billion)
  10. North Carolina – Sweden (GDP #20 at $371 billion)
Huh, I thought for sure NY would rank higher.
But hoomygosh CA is giganourmous.. twice that it's nearest rival.

Who woulda thunk that Ohio would fare so well?
We Michiganders make fun of them regularly... but then, economy isn't everything.
Money doesn't necessarily cure BORING.

I think you meant to say which countries in the EU would pass for third world countries if it wasn't for membership.

Hell, even with Membership. Average GDP in the U.S. is 50% Higher than EU. 75% of EU countries don't even have the average GDP of Louisiana, which is probably about the poorest state in the Union.

America is not a Socialist country, this is why the only democrats who ever win, are democrats who SOUND like Republicans (Hello Bill Clinton - Low taxes, Free Trade, Welfare Reform, Era of Big Government Over - Sounds Republican).

Is GDP actually the only determiner of what is a "third world" country?
That's a pretty lame determinant actually.
China and India would rate higher than some countries where more people have a better quality of life.
