Huh, I thought for sure NY would rank higher.
But hoomygosh CA is giganourmous.. twice that it's nearest rival.
Yeah I remember at one point, CA had almost a third of the entire population of the U.S. I don't know if that ended up falling after the CA Real Estate Boom that sent home prices over there at an average of 4X the U.S. too lazy to look it up right now.

That's a pretty lame determinant actually.
China and India would rate higher than some countries where more people have a better quality of life.
I said "Per Capita" GDP, which usually follows very closely to what people make, which directly affects their quality of life.

It still has to be compared to PPP in order to have a good comparative value.

It's interesting to me though that people still use the word "third world"... It's kind of a Cold War term. Underdeveloped and developing seem like better terms... but of course those look at factors far more complex than GDP per capita and even PPP.

GDP per person is much better. I think that's where Paragon's numbers came from.

I saw that map before those two charts that I used but I didn't use it because it has a fatal flaw in its accuracy in that it doesn't take into account the population of the states in relation to the countries they are being compared to. This is why I decided to use per capita real GDP instead because it is a better determinate for areas with vastly different population sizes.

For instance, on the map Delaware was compared to Romania. However, Delaware has a GDP per capita of $56,496 while Romania's is $11,400.
California's $42,376 compared to France's $33,200
Wyoming's $40,303 compared to Uzbekistan's $2,300
South Dakota's $35,596 compared to Croatia's $15,500
Michigan's $32,846 compared to Argentina's $13,300
Mississippi's $24,477 compared to Chile's $13,900

https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat.../2004rank.html

And I bet DC is only on top because it has a very small population and there are lots of people who make a lot of money there which counteract those who are poor there.
