Default ThirdWorld States in the Union.

I wonder... which states in the USA would pass for third world countries if it wasn't for it's membership in the union?

Probably all of them.

Australia is a second world country, from what I have heard, anyway. Not sure if that's right though.

lessee'er.. what would it take to ignite a civil war in PF?
Well, you'd have to calculate the Human Development Index (HDI), the GDP, take into account fertility rates, and...

Ah, screw it. From Louisiana to Florida--all 3rd world. Oh, and Idaho. They just suck.

None of them would be my answer. Some of the rust belt states could probably pass as second world though (with all the decaying heavy industry).

Second world really refers to the former Soviet states. Australia is definitely first world.

I didn't even read the bloody question right! I read 'countries' instead of 'States'.

My bad.

heheh don't worry about it... outdated and innaccurate terms to begin with, a throw back from the coldwar. I'm using it here in the way it's been defined by the masses.. as a state thats under-developed economically and with relatively poor infrastructure.

Third World was a term originally used to distinguish nations that neither aligned with the West nor with the East during the Cold War, many were members of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Florida? HARDLY! Fla is the third biggest contributor to the US federal system. or is it fourth.

State By State

Since every state in the United States has a real GDP per capita higher than at least one of the first world countries shown it is safe to say that no state would be a third world country if it were on its own.

This is based on GDP. For instance, my state (Missouri) has roughly the same GDP as Poland.
