Have you ever looked at the avatar for ABoyNamedSue?

That’s one ugly looking dude. He also seems really, really angry in his photo. But that might not be an accurate assessment. His dour, scowling demeanor may not be anger at all, but actually just be frustration.

But frustration at what, you might ask.

It’s possible the origin of his frustration emanates from his displeasure directed at his fellow Republican, Senator Larry “Wide Guy” Craig.

Now, after spending all week working on, and perfecting his coded toe-tapping, when ABoyNamedSue enters his favorite stall at the bus station he just can’t get any action going. He probably blames Republican Senator Larry “Wide Guy” Craig for bringing all that attention on himself, creating a lack of Republican toe-tapers to troll for.

That would help explain his scowl, his dour persona reflected in the photo he carefully chose to advertise with. It’s not anger. He’s probably just all pent-up and frustrated, hoping for a return to the good old days.

We should just pity him.

Yeah, wasn't that just the most pleasant of posts? 100% puppies and kitties.

Mods, please don't delete that post. I want him to wallow in it for a while.

Well ... I guess my first thought is that it won't work, and millions of people will die. Millions upon millions more will suffer needlessly.

But look at the POSITIVE impact it that would have on global warming! Think of the plummeting costs of food, without having to fill all those mouths! Think of how much greener the environment will be!

You leftists are just so negative all the time.

"Who do you think would work for a private company, superhuman space people?"

Yes, but a privately owned company is subject to competition. A government owned one is by definition a monopoly. (If the government is the only one allowed to do it, there is no competition) This makes it inefficient and slow to change.

“They are now. Under the Bush administration budgets have been cut for infrastructure projects. A private company, without adequate funding couldn't do much better.”

The roads aren’t paid for by federal dollars, rather state dollars. That’s why gas prices are different in different states. (Some states have higher gas taxes than others)

The local government could issue contracts to different agencies every year. That way, the companies could compete for the contract. This would ensure that the road dollars were used in the most efficient manner. Also, road quality would improve because the contract would be awarded to the company that kept the road in good condition in the most cost effective manner.

Mom has leukemia? Well, I guess you'd better get to work with that very expensive research to look into new ways to keep white blood cells from attacking.... oh, wait. THAT was done already too! Through government funding.
Research and development is a positive externality, and therefore a valid use of government money.

Well, get out there and grab a shovel and some ashphalt and patch up that big hole on the Interstate before... oh, wait. Government does that.
If the government didn't own the road, then there would be someone else to pay to patch a hole in the road.

And how about that FOOD? You'd better employ someone to test that meat you're gonna buy for the BBQ this weekend to make sure it's... oh. Government already did.
With modern day informational exchange, this is no longer a problem for the free market and government intervention is no longer necessary. If it happened that a company was selling food that made people sick, then it would be reported, people would know, and people would absolutely refuse to buy from that company. It would then go out of business after seeing their sales collapse.
