Default Lets take care of ourselves

With all the complaining about Bush, I thought I start a thread complaining about the Federal Government in general. I mean, you can't seriously criticize Bush without complaining about the Feds in general.

So how about this, what if we stopped asking the government to fix things for us? What if we did things ourselves?

I mean, look at all of the problems the Feds try to fix. There is retirement, healthcare, global warming. The list goes on and on. Yet, how effective is the government at fixing things? Under the current system social security will collapse when the baby boomers start retiring. If the Feds can't fix that how can you expect them to provide National Healthcare?

What if healthcare could be fixed by charitable dollars and volunteers, instead of a far away inefficient national government? What if all of our problems could be fixed by the common man looking out for his neighbors?

Thoughts?

You're new so you might not know. But that's pretty much the common conservative/libertarian opinion. Though it's more popular to say global warming is a myth or something China will cause anyway.

While we're in the sheer crazy realm I'd like a corvette.

"What if all of our problems could be fixed by the common man looking out for his neighbors?"

So when are you and your neighbor leaving for Baghdad with your goose guns? There are about 140,000 Americans ready for your arrival. But before you leave, grab your tool kit and head on down to Oklahoma. We've got huge hunks of concrete falling out of our interstate highway bridges. I'm also really interested to know what you and your neighbor intend to do about that $4 gas problem. I'm not so sure I want any of my neighbors managing air traffic while I'm up in the air. Actually, I'm quite sure about that one.

How do you and your neighbor plan to restore product safety inspections for our food supply, pharaceuticals and other products? The honor system doesn't seem to have worked out so swell.

"I mean, you can't seriously criticize Bush without complaining about the Feds in general. "

You're way wrong on that one. It is correctly called "The Bush Administration" for a reason. He picked his cabinet members that have charted the course of the various agencies. It was his team, picked by him, that gave us "Heckofa Job Brownie", Alberto Gonzales, Harriet Miers, Donald Rumsfeld, and others. The fact that they screwed it up isn't the government's fault. He picked his players, and then called the plays. Until we have another election, the buck stops with him.

They're not effective. You know it. I know it. It's a major arterial wound, with a thousand band-aids piled on top of it (cute, colorful ones, so the idiot masses can feel good about them).

Are you rich? Are you successful?
1. Take your pants down.
2. Bend over the table.
3. Prepare to be "serviced" by Mother Government.

What if we let nature run its course, and allow the strong to survive. What if we make citizens held accountable for abusing themselves, by making alcoholics pay for their own liver transplants, or cigarette smokers to pay for their own cancer treatments.

Cute that you leave out the democratically controlled congress. You neo-socialists all view Bush as some kind of "king," who can wave his magic wand and make anything happen. Earth to neo-socialists...Bush pretty much needs congressional approval on most everything he does. Hate to break it to you, but the dems are just as guilty. They just don't need a scapegoat.

So... here's what you do.

Dad has Parkinson's? Well, I guess you'd better dig deep into that pocket of yours and fund some research into brain mapping so the doctor will know which part of the brain the deep brain stimulator... oh, wait. That was done already. Through government funding.

Mom has leukemia? Well, I guess you'd better get to work with that very expensive research to look into new ways to keep white blood cells from attacking.... oh, wait. THAT was done already too! Through government funding.

Well, get out there and grab a shovel and some ashphalt and patch up that big hole on the Interstate before... oh, wait. Government does that.

And how about that FOOD? You'd better employ someone to test that meat you're gonna buy for the BBQ this weekend to make sure it's... oh. Government already did.

GOD, I hate it when the screw the rich like that!

“ There are about 140,000 Americans ready for your arrival. But before you leave, grab your tool kit and head on down to Oklahoma. We've got huge hunks of concrete falling out of our interstate highway bridges.”

That’s just my point; the government is doing a horrible job of highway upkeep. What if that was put in the hands of the private sector?

“I'm not so sure I want any of my neighbors managing air traffic while I'm up in the air. Actually, I'm quite sure about that one.”

Your neighbors probably do! Who do you think works for the government, superhuman space people?

But you would be better off if the air traffic control business was privately owned and operated. Do you know how long it took the FAA to switch from old vacuum tube computers to the newest microchip models?

Yes, but the Bush administration is not solely responsible for the social security crisis, the Bush administration is not solely responsible for the 9 trillion! dollar deficit.

"While we're in the sheer crazy realm I'd like a corvette."

If you want a corvette, go to school, get a degree, get a decent job, save up your money and in a few years.. vhoola you have your corvette. (Unless of course the government decides you don't know how to take care of your own money and takes it and spends it for you)

It isn't the governments job to make your wildest dreams come true, (and if it was, they are doing a horrible job) It's your job.

Who do you think would work for a private company, superhuman space people?

"That’s just my point; the government is doing a horrible job of highway upkeep."

They are now. Under the Bush administration budgets have been cut for infrastructure projects. A private company, without adequate funding couldn't do much better.
