Default Does the truth hurt?

"Your bumper sticker says, 'Can't feed 'em, Don't breed 'em. A lot of the people you deal with did just that. Naikkia Battle said she was offended by that."

A maryland Housing Authority official has this bumper sticker on his car, and many of the people in the project have more kids than they can support.

Appearently, this sticker upsets them. So, does hearing the truth hurt?

It doesn't bother me. Along with that I'd like to see the number of the local Planned Parenthood on the same bumper sticker. Works for me.

My only problem with that bumper sticker is that people don't necessarily want more kids that they can't support, but they get pregnant and don't take the rational solution of abortion because its against their morals. So not only did they fail to take any precautions, but they also failed at dealing with the problem.

Having a child is a big responsibility, and having a child because you "forgot" to use birth control or didn't wear a condom is completely irresponsible. However, making those children starve or become homeless and pay for their parents lack of responsibility is a stupid solution as well, if anything its going to create more problems.

I can understand what you're saying and I agree with you. But is it wrong to tell them that this was an irresponsible mistake?

There is surefire way to guarantee you will not get pregnant. If you choose to have sex and become pregnant, you have the responsibility to support your children. It you can't do that, keep it your pants.

Isn't it counterproductive to have someone in charge of public housing that clearly doesn't support the success of public housing?

Obviously this official would rather people buy their own houses without government assistance.

So his personal/political opinions should bar him from government employment?

I thought I heard something about this in the news.....

I agree that they should keep it in their pants if they don't want a baby, but I unfortunatly don't believe the mass populace has the capacity to rationalize every decision they make and often they act out of emotional desire which leads to mistakes.

If we could all be condom-wearing, birth control pill-popping, pro-choice people, the world would be a more stable place. However, I highly doubt that everyone is going to sign on to that agenda, and make rational decisions about their future, so the mistakes will keep on happening.

However, I think its bad to put all the blame on the mothers who have these children, since it takes two to tango. I think a good size of responsibility should fall on those men who run away from these problems, leaving the woman at home with the kids to support them with whatever job she has and no ability to nurse them at the same time.

Either way, its a complex social situation, and it won't be fixed by playing the blame game.

Pretty much, why would you put someone in charge of something they entirely disagree with?

Unless you plan to sabotage it of course.
