3. Go to Amazon.com and buy a Qur’an, as you’ll need to pretend to have converted.

4. Go to HotWire.com and book a flight to one of the many Muslim countries where this is perfectly legal (Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.)

5. When you arrive, offer Islamic fathers of cute 9 year-olds money for a child bride as in the NYT article (very common in Islamic nations.)

6. Go to town, cowboy! (In the article, he took her clothes off as soon as the lights went out!) Islam allows 4 “wives” at the same time…can you say “orgy”?

7. When you run out of Viagra, simply say “I divorce you” three times in a row (that’s all a MAN has to do in Islam), and you can fly home a free man! (Also, some Islamic countries - such as Iran - allow “temporary marriages”, to facilitate de-facto prostitution.)

8. Repeat as often as you wish (until Muslims change their Quran)!


WARNING: don’t be a “switch-hitter” while there, because being gay/bi-sexual (even consenting ADULTS) will get you tortured/killed! And don’t have sex with kids in a civilized NON-Muslim nation, as for some strange reason we have laws against having sex with kids!

Seriously though, cultural relativity isn't a strong suite with these types of posts because everyone labels it as being apologist. Instead of condemming me as an apologist, lets look at some contextual issues of why Muhammed had a wife of 9:

Back in the 7th Century, the average age-expectancy was aproximately 40-45, which left many people with very little time to procreate.

It should also be noted that Mohammed was a bit of a gold-digger and he married into wealth through an older woman. The reason he took on more wives was so that he would have a family since his first wife (the one that he cared for the most and truly professed his love to) could not bear children because of her old age (much like Abraham's story except without the twist).

Marriages after a girl's first period were common all throughout the world because it marked an entrance into womanhood and their ability to reproduce. If only they realized back then that it took a few more years for a woman to fully develop to rear children, they might have waited. However, waiting for a woman to develop meant you have less time for making children and thus had less of a family and thus less of a life.

Marriages of more than one woman to one man were common throughout the world, and they were especially common in Orthodox-christian and mystic cultures throughout the middle east. The reason behind this was to increase fertility of one man and produce a large family. It's a tradition that goes back thousands of years and is well documented in the bible and other texts of the time and was commonly practiced by the Egyptians and Greeks.

The concept of extending childhood to "adolescence" from the age of 1-18 did not occur until the late 19th and 20th centuries through labor laws and child slavery. So essentially the "common" notion of a 10 year olds being "innocent" really only developed within the last 100 years, so deeming all acts of Muhammed to be "evil" or whatever moral aspersions you care to tack on to him, are a bit too late.

Muslim religion also specifies that to have more than one wife, you must treat each wife equally as if they were one. Now, I don't see how that's technically possible, but that's how its taught.

However, NONE of this excuses what is happening today. Since we know so much more about child developmet and child and teenage psychology from science and empirical data, there should be no reason for people to follow a religious book (no matter which one it is) as a means of justifying or living out one's life.

If they want a spiritual connection with Allah and want to apply themselves to the bonds of mystic revelation and transcendental meaning, then fine. But when these old religious texts determine the societal norms (no matter what the religion) it seems as if it isn't producing anything and simply harming the the group as a whole.

But, I would like to point out that by criticizing and attacking this religion and turning the debate into a black-and-white shout piece, you are basically wasting everyone's time. If you want to logically express what solutions are out there to moderate this religion, much like Christianity has done within the last 200 years then there can be a rational discussion.

However, it seems you have taken the more crude path of unashamedly making your feelings known about the religion (by using someone else's work mind you) without understanding the very deep complexities that tie 1.3 billion people together. Instead you want to narrow the basis of understanding of muslim culture down to a few key points that target the hypocrisies and immoralities of the Muslim religion.
