heres a little gun nostalgia from yesteryear.....
, history records what happened when the Cole Younger gang of eight tried to hold up the bank in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1876. They were recognized by a citizen who sounded the alarm. The gang was shot to pieces by armed civilians as they exited the bank. Two were shot dead, two wounded, and Cole Younger was captured. Jesse James and his brother Frank escaped, though Jesse was wounded. It wasn’t the police but rather armed citizens who thwarted the gang’s attempt to rob the bank. When Pancho Villa attacked Columbus, New Mexico, in March 1916 with more than 600 men, he did so in the early morning, catching everyone by surprise. Although his men damaged a great deal of property, only 17 Americans died, 8 of whom were soldiers from a nearby army post. Because the civilians were well-armed, 94 of Villa’s men were killed and an unknown number wounded, despite the surprise attack. |

The judges who attempted to legislate from the bench lost. All four of them. The FF are cheering in their graves as their intent was approved by the court.

No, they voted to uphold the law.
It's your friends, the one's who are too stupid to understand their interpretation is only as valid as any other, voted to change the law in DC, and, consequentially, municipalities throughout the country. Tell me: do you think gun crimes will go up or down in DC after this ruling? |

Your question is a fallacy on a few levels, red herring and appeal to emotion come to mind. Question, do you think crime will go up or down if we instituted marial law and lopped off limbs for thieves? The answer to that question shows the flaw in your initial question. The constitution deals with rights, not whether or not crime will go up or down and if it's convenient to uhold those rights. Here is what the FF think. The ones who actually wrote the amendment. http://www.lizmichael.com/founding.htm James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434, 6-8-1789 "The right of the people to keep and bear...arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country..." Thomas Jefferson's advice to his 15 year-old nephew: "A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Patrick Henry: "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined. The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun." Samuel Adams: "Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: first, a right to life, secondly to liberty, thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can." John Adams: "Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." Thomas Jefferson, in an early draft of the Virginia constitution: "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms in his own lands." Thomas Paine, writing to religious pacifists in 1775: The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance of power is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside. Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them; the weak would become a prey to the strong."

Not that we believe that will affect your opinions any more than the other times that has happened. Also the rate of successful crimes against those who choose to arm themselves will likely plummet. Though I wish they tracked that stat better. |

John Adams:
"Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." How can you argue with that???
