Default John McCain's Shameful Vote

On April 26, 2008 the United States Senate voted on a bill "To provide an additional $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans." The vote was 84 yeas and 13 nays.

Senator John McCain, that great "supporter of veterans" was one of only 13 senators, to vote AGAINST supporting veterans. There is another other observations about this shameful vote that is worth noting:

Every single "nay" vote against supporting veterans was cast by a Republican. Every single Democrat voted "yea".

Are Republicans proud of this vote? When the chips were down and it really counted, John McCain voted "nay". I wonder what veterans think about a candidate running for president that's willing to keep our troops locked in a needless war, but votes "nay" against benefits for veterans.

If you think this is just so much political hype, or made up, here's a link direct to the United States Senate that lists the bill, the date, the purpose of the bill, and details alphabetically who voted "aye" and who voted "nay".

You can't deny the truth, but I suppose you can continue to excuse the shameful acts.

John McCain just voted against veterans. The left doesn't need to make that claim. McCain's own voting record proves the point.

You may wish he didn't vote agains the veteran's bill, but you can't alter the truth that he did.

I think you're taking the votes at face value, carefully omitting WHY those folks voted "no." Considering the fact that McCain WAS in the military, maybe he's onto something.

So why did he vote against it? Am I allowed to disagree with you now that you are a moderator?

Maybe if pigs had wings they'd be eagles.

If "why" is such a compelling reason, what is it? The fact is, John McCain was one of only 13 senators, all Republicans, that voted against the veterans.

He thought that the bill would encourage enlisted folks to only serve the minimum years required, and then quit.

"He thought that the bill would encourage enlisted folks to only serve the minimum years required, and then quit."

That was the absurd claim made by George W. Bush. Only 13 senators bought in to that malarky, all Republicans, including John McCain, and actually voted against the veterans. Bush fought against the bill and lost. McCain sold out the veterans to stay in lockstep with George W. Bush.

Now McCain has to feel like a fool.

George W. Bush, after fighting against the bill, he summoned the media and said...

"The bill is a result of close collaboration between my administration and members of both parties on Capitol Hill. … I want to thank members who worked hard for the GI Bill expansion, especially Senators Webb and Warner, Graham, Burr, McCain. This bill shows that even in an election year, Democrats and Republicans can come together to stand behind our troops."

Bush actually thanked John McCain for his work in supporting the bill. Apparently Bush is really as dumb as we've suspected for years. It's quite unprecidented to thank someone for supporting a bill you were opposed to, but now want to take claim for, especially when you're thanking someone that actually tried to vote just like Bush wanted him to, and actually voted against it.

These Republicans are just like the gang that couldn't shoot straight. I guess the concept of McCain only respresenting a third term for Bush is more accurate than you'd like.

Too funny.
