jellah quote......"who is going to sue someone because gays can get married?"

where have you been?....this has been going on for a little while now....the California Supreme Court just ruled on this.....it got to them because of a lawsuit, and its not over,in Nov.this issue goes up for vote....if the voters shoot the decision down, and it becomes part of the state constitution,NO GAY MARRIAGE.....guess what ...more lawsuits to follow...

Thats people suing to ESTABLISH rights for themselves...not much different from numerous other groups who fought for their rights (in various ways). Thats not a state vs national issue either...thats a societal issue and no it wouldnt be fair to for some states to be able to discriminate..those rights should be fought for on a national level so that ALL citizens benefit from that struggle and not just a few.

So can the people vote away rights for women, or certain ethnicties as well? Or would we reject that due to it violating our premise of anti-discriminatory?

I see no reason why such issues should be left to the state instead of the nation as a whole which would allow CONSISTENT rights and laws to abide by.

BTW, example...inter-racial marriage had to go to court to be allowed but no one has ever sued someone because they married inter-racially. Its the same with gay marriage. The suing is derived out of DENIAL of rights, not the granting of them. Allowing states to continue to deny rights while others award those rights means MORE lawsuits, not less. So if its lawsuits you are truly concerned with then you would favor national standards and also support awarding gay marital rights since THAT would prevent further law suits.

Sad, but true. McCain's ignorance is go great, he's too ignorant to be embarrassed.
