Hey, i've been here a few days, and would like to get to know y'all better... I've read some of your mails, seen photographs and seen names, but, seeing as this is political, lets work out who stands for what.
(You probably already know eachothers beliefs, and if this is a complete waist of time for most, sorry! Just a beginner trying to find her feet! I'll start: Freedom of religion, speech and movement. Discovery of everyones unique role and chance for life, and the means to help. Equality, as in different cultures or different anything, as long as your human, it doesn't matter, you get the same chance as everyone else. Order, as in a structered country, as in, as long as the public and the people in charge work together and comunicate, to make sure the needs of the people are being met, and the country is moving forward, and neighbours are getting whatever you have spare, and the people of the country have a guideline to live by, thats fine. I dont really know what else i can think of, still new to the whole political thing What do you believe in then?

God rejecting anyone with disabilities:
Leviticus 21:16-23 NLT Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron that in all future generations, his descendants who have physical defects will not qualify to offer food to their God. No one who has a defect may come near to me, whether he is blind or lame, stunted or deformed, or has a broken foot or hand, or has a humped back or is a dwarf, or has a defective eye, or has oozing sores or scabs on his skin, or has damaged testicles. God commanding Christian slaves to do as they are told; Timothy 6:1-2 NLT Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. God is sexist? Corinthians 14:33-35 NAB As in all the churches of the holy ones, women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. But if they want to learn anything, they should ask their husbands at home. For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church. Hope you don't work on a Sunday! Jeremiah 17:27 NLT But if you do not listen to me and refuse to keep the Sabbath holy, and if on the Sabbath day you bring loads of merchandise through the gates of Jerusalem just as on other days, then I will set fire to these gates. The fire will spread to the palaces, and no one will be able to put out the roaring flames. Exodus 35:2-3 NAB On six days work may be done, but the seventh day shall be sacred to you as the Sabbath of complete rest to the Lord. Anyone who does work on that day, shall be put to death. You shall not even light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day |

First, Any thing old testemant, is old covenant.
Christianity is New covenamt brought by Jesus. Second, The holy alter and holy place and holy veil were sacred. Back then, God was in one place called the temple...well... he made it his dwelling place. Though that didnt mean he couldn't see, hear, or know what the rest of the world was up to while he was there. The place was so sacred that only one person could enter the Holy Place, and that was the High Priest, once a year, with a rope tied around his ankles incase he fainted at the sight of God. Or his presence. God IS holy and he was simply laying down the rules for his temple. However, along came Mr Jesus of the New Covenant, who broke the veil (it tore in half) and declared that God is now a dweller of human hearts rather than stone buildings. Third, slaves were common place back then, Christianity didnt advertise slavery, they simply focused on the attitude slaves should have so that God could be glorified through it. Fourth, Women were thought to be inferior because Jesus didnt lay down any strict rules on a change in that department. Jewish women were inferior and that was the major religion before christianity. However, jesus spoke to, and helped many women, opposed to the tradition of jewish women at the time, and appeared to Mary first when he returned. The writers of the new testiment would have been influenced by their old religion and the people of the time, and Jesus didnt actually give them specific intsructions as to whther the role of women should change. Now however, we can see Jesus' behavior in a different light, and can act accordingly without the influence of jews. God, most definately is not sexest, because Jesus didnt act sexest when he was here. Fifthly, ...im still thinking about the fifth one... and the sixth

Guevara, I think I would counter you with the idea that lobotomies at birth would be much more effective in achiving some sort of harmony between people. It dosen't matter if humans come from a religious perspective or not, we are going to find a reason to hate, attack or put down some one because their beliefs and traditions are different than ours. That seems to be more of a human nature than anything else. Just as you have take a few out of context examples of violence to use for your purposes, whole movements and nations have done the same thing. So remove religion from mans life and what do you get.
I'm going over there and kill those people because my families bigger than theirs and I need that land to feed my people....so on and so forth. Where do the core values of right and wrong come from? Hello FF, I also am new to these boards so lets get our feet wet together. I believe respect, communication, personal responsibility and a willingness to see someone else prosper are keys to good relations and good politics |

Quote:
You have about six verses out of thousands, that i have just justified. Here, a few that will lean towards what i say. 1. Rejecting disabilities... 1Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearnce, but the Lord looks at the heart." This shows no sign of discrimination or physical preference. Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, teachers of the Law and Pharisees, you Hypocrits! You are like white washed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness." God seems much more interested in the inside of a person...in their attitudes, rather than their blemishes. Mark 7:18 "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him unclean? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomache, and then out of his body." He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him unclean. For from within, out of mens hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deciet, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean." This shows me that God knows whats wrong and right and takes no account of what a man looks like but how a man lives. God does not promote violence, only His rule, his glorification and a lifestyle of goodness. 2. SLaves to do as they are told... Here i belive that God focuses on the lifetyle that a slave would portray. Slaves were common place and slavery wasn't seen in the same light as it is now. Collosians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not men. Since you know that you will recieve an inheritence from the Lord as a reward. 1Timothy 6: 1-2 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered. Luke 10:27 He answered: Love the lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, love your neighbour as youself." These were the two greatest commandments and they go quite perfectly with the above two. Portraying inner attitudes. 3. Women... I said that Jesus doesn't care about the barriors of women??? Mark 3:33 Who are my mothers and brothers? he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother." 1 corinthians 11:11 In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. There are no barriors there, and no status. Thats the new covenant. 4. Violence???... Matthew 5:38 You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth.' But i tell you do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. I do not see promotion of violence there...

Yeah but the bible still contains the old testament. Are you going to ignore the divinely inspired word of God. you cannot have one without the other. you cant pick and choose what books should be ignored if you truly believe that the bible is the divinely inspired.
