Way to stereotype a whole region as stupid racists who only care about being racist. I believe there's a saying that goes "Stupid is as stupid does."

A question to the person who gave it: do you live in the South? (I won't neg you for owning up)
Yes, I live in Texas. It's a southern state in a western costume

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a strong sense of foreboding about this topic - like I'm walking into a "pie fight". It's a difficult topic to discuss with the people that live here, let alone someone who doesn't. I don't feel like getting into a long discussion about civil rights, Dixiecrats, Nixon's Southern Strategy, James Meredith, Medgar Evers, and a whole host of race-related issues, so let me say this...

The reason we Southerners vote Republican, is that we know it pisses you Yankee's off sumthin' fierce!
Maybe sometime in the future we can discuss Republican politics in Mississippi - just not now.

I'm also at a loss on what racist policies the Republican party promotes. Maybe someone could fill me in?
All I know is that Texans vote Republican and it's in Texas that a Republican really gets to be a Republican. Get a hold of their party platform. Actually, when I shove the printed 2004 Texas Rep. Party platform under their nose, they are shocked of what they're voting for. Their basic goal is to do away with any form of New Dealism althogether. And that would hurt blacks since more blacks tend to make use of those services. But no, their platform is not overtly racist, but that's how it would work out in reality if they always had their way.

Cry me a river. If it hadn't been for southern racists, we would have a goverment health care program already. Truman proposed in 1946 the single payer system we should have today. The conditions couldn't have been any better. The pharma lobby wasn't in existence back then and the private health insurance industry wasn't a major force. But southern Dixicrats thought that this would force the integration of hospitals, and it would have been and they killed it. Keeping blacks out of white hospitals was more important to them than getting healthcare to poor whites. They had support from southern whites in that position. I'm no saying it's still that way but I sure as hell didn't pull a stereotype outa thin air either. Racist whites in the South created that and it has stuck.

Does it even concern you that you're being prejudice against souther people on the assumption that they are prejudice? Or didn't the thought cross your mind? Even if there are some racist southerners out there, at least they're not making assumptions and trying to change the topic when they're confronted with the facts...

Not really. Overall I'm comfortable with my double standarts.

well, idk if this is for me b/c i haven't been a white southerner that long.

but this year it is simple: they don't want a black president. its pretty simple as that. although i wouldn't call white southerners racist, they fear the idea of having a black president in theory. do you get what i am saying? just like in a black dominated area, they would fear having a white representative. unlike the rest of the country, blacks here feel that they were abused a lot more (as they were) and whites fear the reparations from that if obama becomes president.

hope that clears things up.
