also, guns are a HUGGGEEEE deal down here, and just the threat of having them taken away scares a bunch of white southerners as well.

Well lets see perhaps the republican party is a conservative party. And the majority of southerners are conservative. That would be a guess...

What a silly, irrational fear. The steps Obama would have to take to physically remove every gun from every white southerner--let alone every American--is simply ludicrous. He'd need a Constitutional amendment to get passed the Second Amendment--that means super-majorities in Congress and ratification by three-quarters of the states. Crazy-talk. The logistics are a nightmare even if by some small, twilight-zone chance the legislation was passed.

I think a President NoBama would be extremely hard pressed to push through or support any kind of legislation infringing Second Amendment rights in even a Democratic Congress--especially after the recent rulings of the SCOTUS. Said fear is just a political tool crafted by the campaign of Mc-One-Foot-in-the-Grave-One-Foot-on-a-Banana-Peel.

Did you even read my whole post?

Anyway, in case you missed it, the right to bear arms are a god-given right everywhere, hence the inclusion in the Bill of Rights. Besides, it's gun-crazy out here, too--if I lost my ability to shoot at free-loading, trespassing bastards or huge six-point bull elk, I'd be pissed, too. Never much liked knife hunting.

If its that hard to place restrictions of guns how did the brady bill occur? He won't be able to outright ban guns or kinds of guns but that doesn't mean he can't lay down some kind of restriction.

racists tend to vote repub because the party panders to conservatives -- nothin to do with party positioning beyond that. it wasnt always like this.

I didn't say anything about restrictions or regulations--just the outright banning that many in the South, and here in Montana, are so scared of. Obama probably will attempt to create new, national restrictions on guns--all in violation of the Second Amendment and states' rights, of course. But he'd still have to get it through Congress; the POTUS is no dictator.

(An aside: the Brady Law was somewhat eviscerated b the Printz v. US case, which was originally filed by a sheriff from Ravalli County, Montana. Nice.)

You guys should take just a moment to look at Clarion Ledger's forum. It's Jackson Mississippi's local newspaper and their forum is more than half racially enflamed and or motivated. Long 500+ post discussions on blantantly racist subjects, however individually each poster don't seem to be able to discern their own racism or able to acknowledge that they are... really ignorant.
