So this is not well enough defined for you to agree all those who commit a crime that fits should receive at least 25 years?
What does "lewd or lascivious act" mean? Does it include flashing? Online discussion with sexual content? Other nonviolent acts? What? Such things should be punished, but not necessarily with 25 years imprisonment.

I have no problem with the specific reference to Florida's law, because it's much more narrowly construed. "Sexual battery or rape" is strictly defined.

Excuse? Are liberal judges pushing this law? I though the job of judges was to judge? Not enforce some automatic law written by a vengeful parent.

Of course they aren't. They're the reason for the law to begin with. Their job is to judge and punish those responsible. They haven't done their job effectively enough so those vengeful parents have helped create laws that ensure others aren't victimized by their failings. Democracy in action.

Judges are restricted in their handing down of sentences by the law that is on the books at the time. that is why we need laws passed through teh legislature so the judges know what society wants them to do with an offender.
