Default If you had the power, how would you get us out of Iraq?

McCain has said he would stay 100 years. Obama says we would be out in 16 months.
There is a large difference between the two.
Do you favor a quick exit leaving Iraq to fend for themselves? A phased withdrawal that would have us leave over a longer period but leaves them a certain amount of security?
Would you do something else?

I would have to try and protect the soverignty of their borders in some way so that others don't come in and make a worse mess then we have.

What would you do?

The reason most of the militias are able to recruit and keep themselves intact is because of the occupation, they can say 'we are being occupied, so we need to resist', without the American troops on the ground, that would effectively mean the disbanding of most of the major Sunni and Shia militias, and give impetus to isolating the more radical foreign elements.

The greatest block to peace in Iraq is the American occupation.

I would leave Iraq, and offer the Iraqi people to help them rebuild their country. If they refuse, we can give them money to help them rebuild and they could call on us any time they needed our help.

Hate to burst everyones bubble but if you haven't noticed, We/the USA don't leave anywhere. We wouldn't be building a 100 acre Embassy complex if WE planned to leave. Then again WE don't leave, WE sell them the "Company Store" which is a government planned program to win the hearts and minds. WE will show the Iraqi people that they NEED us to help them succeed in the global market. To improve their living standards and so on. You should see the films on this, WE do the same thing everywhere WE go. I might mention that WE do this to ourselves, or should I say the Government that you elected does this to us. More and more they compel you to need them in one way or another.

They can call us anytime they need us, we are there. I might add it would cost far more to bring the troops home than it costs to keep them there.

I'm not for all this but I understand why we are there.

"We marched in, we can just march right back out"- Dr. Ron Paul

First day on the job, I'd be pulling American troops out.

America should look at the dutch as example. They have far more success with their operations in afghanistan then any other coalition force. What's their success? Building infrastructure, keeping a open dialogue with the locals, teach locals skills.

The Dutch have less casualties and alot of the locals do not see the dutch as a threat.

However. I'm not sure if this is a viable road for America to choose. The us has already created too much resentment in Iraq. It might already be too late to do anything but pull out. This is something that is totally unknown.
