Default Why liberal radio shows don't work

Just recently XM has added the American Left channel to offset the American Right channel.

I thought I would listen to it for awhile yesterday to get a feel for what American left talk radio would consist of.

No wonder they can't get people to listen, they sound like idiots. It was like Air America, which was more like Air Heads to me.

Liberals have a hard time filling a 3 hour slot when they have nothing to talk about. No policy discussion really, its all the evil republicans, and change, and flowers with rainbows and colored gum drops. But facts and policy are left out. For 45 minutes yesterday, I listened to a guy lie through his (*)(*)(*)(*) teeth, and I don't mean just fibbing, or bending the truth, this radio host was flat out BSing about policy.

It seems to be a habit with liberals to throw crap at a wall, and hope a piece of the turd stays stuck just long enough for it to stink up the room. Conservative radio rails against Bush, McCain, and many other republicans, along with liberals of course. But liberal radio is about one thing, whine about republicans, or conservatives, and thats it.

I listen to Glenn Beck an awful lot, and like him the most out of all the radio shows I listen too. He is the most educating and funny one in the whole bunch. But what I like most about him is that he rails against all politicians, and speaks truth no matter who he's referring too. That is what I like, a little honesty. I don't care for Bush either, but I won't make up lies to paint him any worse than he is for what he has really done, or lack there of.

If the American Left radio channel would put moderate democrats, or real people on the mic, they might just get a following, but thats hard to predict. The same reason democrats have to move to the center during every election is the same reason liberal talk radio don't work. People don't want to hear the modern liberal message, which is socialism collectivism. People don't want to be taxed anymore, they are tired of working and never seeing their taxes back in any form. Bad enough you will never see your SS because they have to keep pushing up the age of retirement. That great liberal policy has failed, but we still are being forced to pay for it.

The reason that liberal talk radio fails is that the hosts invariably take themselves very seriously, and are just so darned earnest for the correct causes. All of which is very tiresome. NPR in small doses is fine, but a 3 hour show is exhausting. However, there are exceptions to the rule. I disagree with Ed Schultz, for example, but his show is interesting, informative, and what sets it apart, entertaining. It's the entertainment part that the libs miss. Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, et all are a funny, entertaining bunch. That's what brings in the audience.

This is true. There's only so much "Bush Hatred" you can say in a three-hour slot, before you start to sound like a broken record. Especially, when the left can't come up with an original solution to a problem.

Ever heard Randi Rhodes talk? Christ, does she rant like a zit-faced teenager! ...and we already know what a complete tool Keith Olbermann is.

I find Hannity incredibly annoying and Savage is downright awful. I can handle O'Reilly, though, as he doesn't bother me too much.

I loathe that shrill Randi Rhodes, but I like Ed Shultz quite a bit.

I'd rather listen to political discourse played between the two thirty yard line markers than all the polemic stuff around the goal lines. It all tends to be partisan to some degree, but the less partisan the more I like it, and the more partisan, the less.

Liberals have jobs. They don't have time hanging on every word of Mush Limbaugh like conservatives on the dole.

If liberals are so busy why do they have so much time to hug trees, and complain that conservatives are making too much money?

Hannity is annoying, but Savage is a riot! That guy is going to have an aneyrism right at his microphone, he gets so freakin' worked up.

Again...proof positive that it's the "entertainment" factor that drives success in talk radio.

I tried to listen to Air America, but honestly, it just sounded like conservative radio with some of the terms swapped around. It was smarter, funnier and less offensive, but it was still dumb, not very clever and annoying. Not as much as conservative radio, but still way too much for me.

Truth is, I don't think liberals in general are ever going to be all that into listening to anything with an overt political agenda. We're not the kind of people who like to be brainwashed.

Just the other day on the way to Keller's I saw two conservatives sitting on the curb, listening to right-wing radio and begging for beer money. I tossed 'em a quarter.

I largely agree with this assessment, and that of the original post.
