So you like that your hero Obama flys around in huge military planes all over the world, wasting even more of our tax dollars?
Ohhellyeah. When it comes to geopolitical power projection, image of strenght is everything.. It instils fear to the enemies of my nation. And on the more practical side; United States Senators on official govt trips to the war zone should be protected.

btw, you are wrong about 'all over the world'. BHO took a private jet once the senate ME leg of the trip was done.

I don't know about Germany in particular, but European countries with more worker perks have greater productivity per worker per hour. America's overall high productivity rate is based primarily on population and excess hours.
America is stuck on the notion that working people to death makes for better productivity. We're slowly learning, at least with white collar workers.

You know those moves toward 4-day weeks in many sectors? They claim it's about gas, because that's the issue of the day. That claim is BS. It's about productivity.
Similar to the way people think harsher punishment equals rehab despite evidence otherwise, they're stuck on the idea that working people harder means more productivity.

While I agree that a 4 day work week would make sense in a lot of sectors, statistics backing European workers as more productive is pretty biased given that they work less, and would therefore be more rested to work. This also doesn't lead to the conclusion that they produce more annually per worker, just that they are more productive during the time that they do work. Most socialized nations have growth rates that are lackluster at best. At the very least they are not growing fast enough to cover their increasingly higher and higher number of social programs that are sweeping industrialized Europe. Keep in mind I'm not fond of what our country is doing either because we are following down that same path. And to everyone, please don't bother to respond with the War in Iraq because I agree that it was stupid to go in the first place, and it was a massive waste of money.

As far as calling in sick, I wouldn't be surprised if they did because it is incredibly difficult to fire an employee in nations like Britain and Germany. The legal fees are so expensive that it is better just to keep them. This is one of the main reasons they have much more unemployment than the U.S. In Europe frictional unemployment (you can view this as the good kind of unemployment) is much lower and entry into the workforce is much smaller.

I'm not too fond of comparisons to Europe because many of them leave out several key facts to promote an agenda. The quality of Health Care in these nations is often greatly overstated, and everyone pushing for massive entitlement programs similar to many European nations choose to ignore the fact that many of them are spending themselves into bankruptcy at an even greater rate than we are.
