Most of the time, slavery that originated in Africa was one group invading another and then taking the people as slaves to be sold. (I'm going to avoid the word "tribe", but think of the same thing.) There are many different kinds of Africans and if you live there, they can discriminate where each came from by certain physical characteristics. We don't have that same ability--all blacks look the same to us.

But I am not talking about an African that took over another African’s people and enslaved them there. I am talking about an African that sold them to the white man.

Promised reparations were never delivered. The slave owners were usually white. So the animosity more than likely comes from that. I don't think there were many Afro-Americans making money on this end.

That's really ok. I've had a few survey courses in African history and its hardly enough. (I did my research mostly on Ethiopia) Africa is HUGE and there is a tendency to lump all Africans like they're one people. Definitely not true. In addition, African history is much harder to understand because it is less of a written history and more to do with anthropology. There was a joke in our class that the answer is always "pottery." That's because they could track movements of different people by finding pottery. Its a very different study of history. There is nothing written, but there is a history of people and civilizations being there, but not anymore. (Climate changes in the Sahara?)


I had a chart (and this was a few years ago) that identified different main black African groups and tribes physical characteristics (much like we identify different Europeans) and they usually can identify each other because they live there. They don't really identify as being black as much as from their originating group.

What in the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Why is the animosity of blacks regarding slavery directed solely at WHITES, and not at the remaining AFRICAN TRIBES who were responsible for selling other blacks into slavery? You realize that slavery has existed in one form or another for the past 1,000 years in Africa? And yet, the only group that black Americans are seeking reparations from are white Europeans. What about the Arab slave traders? What about the black African tribesmen?

Why aren't these lawsuits being pursued against these groups? Why aren't these groups held as equally culpable for slavery WITH whites? And, why aren't black Americans more concerned about the ONGOING practice of slavery in Africa?
