Default China offers $8,800 to silence quake victims's parents

Just when you think the Chinese government can stoop no lower to suppress free speech, they take it down a notch.

Several parents of the 10,000 students killed when their classrooms collapsed during the Sichuan earthquake last May, are saying the Chinese government offered them as much as $8,800 cash along with a $5,600 pension, not to go public with their concerns over shoddy construction contributing to the unusually high death toll.

But, wait, it gets worse: The government is offering less money to parents of young children than those with high school age children, since parents of younger children can still produce more.

**Well, it goes to show that if you supply the world with cheap products, you can do anything you darn well please. Maybe they will get to host the Olympics! Oh, wait, that's right.... they already are.

Doesn't surprise me, they are out to protect their own, and don't give a toss about the victims. Hopefully no one will take the money.

This essentially the same thing we do here in the U.S. when we settle civil cases with an agreement that neither party will discuss the case afterward.

Well, yeah, and the common cold and cancer are essentially both a sickness, but this is a governmental move --not the workings of a business trying to save face after poor behavior and a paid settlement.
