Default Fair Tax

First off, what is the Fair Tax? I do not understand how a sales can replace every other tax. Second, do you support it? And thirdly, why or why not?

I think a flat tax (%) is a fair tax. We all pay according to our income - it helps the less fortunate.

1. Fair Tax sets a tax on only new item sales, there would be no tax on used products sold. Rebates are sent to people in lower pay wages to compensate for taxes paid. ALthough I don't have all the answers, I have read many debates regarding the fair tax. There is a website for more info.
2. Yes, I do support it. It would be a huge savings to our country and a great sigh of relief to be rid of the IRS
3. Rich people who spend the most money on luxury would pay the most taxes. Drug dealers, pimps, illegal aliens all would pay taxes on the amount purchased. Less loopholes, tax shelters.

But there already is a tax on purchased items? Would this just include increasing that tax to the point that it would replace the income tax?

Huge fan and it's nothing like a flat tax.

It's a national retail sales tax that replaces the income tax, not all other taxes. You pay a sales tax only on new goods and you recieve a monthly prebate to cover the basic neccesities of live based on family size. You can learn more by following the link in my sig.

So it would raise the retail sales tax to 23%? Wouldn't that hurt the economy? I don't understand.

It also eliminates all corporate taxes and embedded tax in the production process lowering the costs of goods. Also the 23% only applies to new goods, not used.

The boost comes from you getting to keep 100% of your paycheck every week instead of handing over 25% at a time and then waiting a year from Uncle Sam to send you some of it back.

That is not a flat tax, a flat tax is a set number as Steve Forbes had suggested. I think the number was 17%. Oh and when was the Government "less fortunate"?
