Why do people make someone else's sexuality their business?
How did the "greatest country in the world" become so illogical? http://www.newsweek.com/id/147790/page/1 snippet: Quote:

California is really sick. It's like a segregated society where gays are hated outside of their "designated areas." It's seen as a bastion of tolerance from the outside, but this simply isn't true. I remember when I was there 8 years ago, I saw a news clip on TV of someone throwing a smoke bomb into the middle of the gay pride march in San Diego. There were always incidents like that happening. There were these roving bands of young punks who would harass people and yell at them. They had the most hateful stares on their faces that I've ever seen. California is just full of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s and jerks. Those scum don't even try to be civil. I assume most of the products of broken homes and have little or no parental guidance - but that's no excuse for their behavior. But I don't think the punk who murdered him did so because of Christianity. He probably had never even picked up a Bible. He just did so because of hate. And such worthless punks need to be locked up in jail for the rest of their lives.

I just read the whole article. They're actually trying to make excuses for the killer, saying that since the gay boy asked him out he was harassing him. Ridiculous.
"Brandon was being terrorized," says Bill, who has set up a public defense fund in his son's name. "He was being stalked almost, to the degree of the school should have never let this happen." If he was being "terrorized" by a 5'1" male, why didn't he report it to school officials? You report things like that to the authorities. You don't kill someone for talking to you. Then a teacher goes on to say: "We failed Brandon," a teacher says. "We didn't know the bullying was coming from the other side—Larry was pushing as hard as he could, because he liked the attention." Bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Brandon failed Brandon and Brandon's parents failed Brandon. Brandon should have reported any alleged incidents to the school authorities. Regardless, even if he was harassed, which from reading the full article I seriously doubt, being harassed does not justify murder. The only real justice is for Brandon to go jail for the rest of his life.

This is what happens when there is only one definition of acceptable sexuality. If a lad asked a girl out on a date and she didn't want to go what would she do? Politely decline. But would she go and get a gun and shoot the lad who asked her out? No.
But somehow it seems, at this early stage, that if a young bloke asked another young bloke out on a date it's some sort of event that justifies killing the inviter. I don't mean to be judgemental as the case is before the courts but reading the comments so far I have to say that rationalisation is weird. Many years ago I was hit on by a gay man in a pub. "Thank you but I'm not interested". That was that. No fuss. No big deal. No harm. All very cordial. Who got into this kid's head so that he felt violence was the only response? |

Here are the details of the study: "Another way of evaluating these data is to calculate the per- centage of men who demonstrated no significant tumescence (i.e., 0-6 mm), modest tumescence (i.e., > 6-12 mm), and definite tumescence (i.e., > 12 mm) based on their mean tu- mescence score to the homosexual video. In the homophobic group, 20% showed no significant tumescence, 26% showed moderate tumescence, and 54% showed definite tumescence to the homosexual video; the corresponding percentages in the nonhomophobic group were 66%, 10%, and 24%, respectively"

TB,
Ouch! That's confirmation for what I've always thought. Larry is a martyr to the latest struggle for civil rights, no different from the blacks who were strung up in Mississippi. There will come a day when one's orientation will be of no more consequence than their eye color or hand dominance.
